My mom is on her way home, still not sure what happened. the paramedics said a heart blockage, by the time she got to the hospital her heart was fine. Then it was high potassium she has had that before but it was medicines. round of dialysis and its is good, oooops next morning not good. ok where is the potassium coming from ? another round of dialysis. so skip the Cardiac people and bring in the kidney. they say her kidneys got injured by something ? what who knows for the now. but she is home and I am happy, found my Joy ! Love that woman.3 points

Nicotine also quickly depletes vitamin C from the body. We were all in varying states of vitamin deficiency when we were smoking. Good riddance to cigarettes.3 points

@Opah just FYI the AZO helps with the pain and the symptoms but that won't treat the infection if it is a UTI you need antibiotics. Hopefully the hospital did a urine sample, because that is very common in the elderly, but I have learned you have to be your own best advocate when it comes to medical. You are welcome @Opah2 points

We have a peach festival here in July. All the fresh peaches you could want, you can even buy a bushel. They also have a huge farmers market there with everything you could want. They close down the city square in Weatherford Texas. There are vendors of arts, crafts and food.2 points

Time to buy some AZO and keep it on hand. I will check with my Daughter she is the one with all the info They were talking about an infection at one point when she couldn't pee. Thank you Girls you both are a bit of sunshine in my dreary days2 points

Round about late May or early June...it's time for peaches. I'm sure some of the peaches at the grocery store are fine. However, peach perfection is usually purchased direct from the farmer off the back of a flatbed truck. If you don't have peach juice running down your chin and aren't making m'mmm type noises...you're not doing it right.2 points

Recipes my mother inlaw used to make. Yesterday made casserole of layered mushrooms and eggs and sausage balls. Good for any meal. Honey and cinnamon butter as well. I really miss my inlaws! I married into a great family!2 points

That's a sweet topic @notsmokinjo. My people hail from Canada so it was summers in Vancouver picking blackberries down the lane from my grandmother's house. She used to make a lattice-topped pie. I am pretty sure I took after her: she smoked for 40 years or something but lived well until her late 80's.2 points

Welcome to qt @JoanD and congratulations on being a week quit, you're already through hell week. That's awesome And congratulations on your engagement. What a nice day you'll have being present in the moment instead of always looking for that time and place to light one up. Not to mention the stink You'll have all the support you need/want and there's quitters here from all over the world so there's usually someone around 24/7. So take a look around, lots to do here from educating yourself on our addiction to Socializing to help get your mind off your quit2 points

Welcome @JoanD Congratulations on 1 week smoke free. The first week is the toughest so big congrats on that. Also, congratulations on getting engaged. That is awesome. For what its worth, I smoked for 20 years, initially just socially and then it became a habit and addiction so I know how you feel. What worked for me was accountability (joining a support group of fellow quitters, like here, and sharing your experiences and reaching out for help as needed) as well as learning more about nicotine addiction (lots of this info can be found in our site's quite smoking discussions section) This really helps. You are doing a great thing in quitting smoking. There is a lot of support and knowledge you can gain here. Welcome aboard.2 points

My mom had dementia. when she got a UTI, she would go totally off. Introducing me as here 16 year old daughter. Not knowing where she was, even though she had been living with me for some time. It is a scary time trying to figure things out.1 point

Oh....blackberries in summer, climbing through the bracken ferns to get to the ferral blackberry bushes while staying at my Great Aunties house...she would make blackberry jam and then a batch of scones to eat it with, lecturing us the whole time not to go near the blackberry bushes cos that's where the snakes are.... Isn't it fun, when you think about these things you can feel the burn of the Sun through your tshirt and you can smell the eucalyptus on the air....it's like a time travel or is that just me.1 point

Today my happy food memory is Lime Spiders..... a glass of lime softdrink with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.... makes me think of summer holidays on my uncles farm crowding into the kitchen to get a treat.... remembering putting on advocates concerts with the cousins, being torchered with bugs and spiders and lizards and snakes by the same cousins so getting an extra scoop to make up for having to put up with the boys all day.1 point

@Steven Drojensky my first memory of the Saints is being crammed into the boot of my uncles panel van with 4 other kids they were supposed to be babysitting driving to the beach and my uncle saying "now kids, this is music, listen, learn" ....sound track of my childhood. Also in those early days of panel van trips to the beach my soundtrack included Radio Birdman... And The Limespiders .... Now I want a lime spider....mmmm yummo1 point

Hi Everyone After smoking for the last 12 years or so, initially just socially and then out of habit and gradually more and more daily, It's my first time to 'properly' quit. Lots of times I've said I'd stop and I never do, or I only do it for a day or two. I got engaged over the holidays so I am busy planning wedding and have a goal to aim for and want to be healthy and smoke free for it. I never start a new year resolution so I waited a week and began then. I'm now 1 week quit. Good luck to all other recent quitters and well done and continued success to all those who've quit already and have made a new habit of not smoking. Joan1 point

Hello to everyone on the train. My name is Tim and I had been smoking for roughly 40 years before I finally decided to quit. I quit at the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic. I had a roommate who was struggling with a bad case of COVID-19 which was a disease the affected your lungs. It took the fear of dying from this disease to push me over the top. So I decided on April 4th 2019 to quit smoking. I did it cold turkey and faced my biggest test 3 days later when my roommate died of COVID-19 in the hospital alone. So, it was a rough beginning to my quit but I vowed to never smoke again as a tribute to him. I am presently at 1 year and 9 months quit. So, believe in yourself and have faith. Everyone can do it.1 point
