  10. You can do it Dave! It is scary, just take it one day at a time. Don't think any farther than that (sometimes it's one hour or one moment at a time). Come here often and post or read or watch videos...this support group is AWESOME. Education about this addiction is your new best friend and there is so much you can learn here. Stick around!

  14. @Davevat1Welcome and Happy New Year! Best decision you ever made. Trust all of us on this-no matter how challenging it is at the beginning, it GOES AWAY. And then you actually start to feel good about yourself, about your life. Instead of fearful and guilty because: 1) you smoke; and 2) you don't want to smoke but are afraid you can't quit. Every single one of us has been in that same space (right QTers?). If we can do it so can you. Keep close and post often. Looking forward to learning some new vernacular.

  15. Thank you all! I made it through nursing school and have accepted my dream position in the trauma intensive care unit. All of these positive changes came from my decision to quit 9 years ago!

  16. For one, if they were time travelers they would be able to give us the winning lottery numbers and since they can't then it must be the time zones

  17. I know how time zones work...for the most part. That being said, the Australian contingent here on the Train always seems to be posting from tomorrow today. They say they're from the land down under, but what if Jo and CB are actually time travelers.

  18. @SalJust wanted to Happy New Year! Hope you are still with us, having faith in yourself. You can be who you want to be this year. I have gained so much in the last six months, better health, the options to go places and do things without worry. Overwhelming strength and confidence that I can do things I never would have tried before. We are expecting a cold winter storm here for the next couple of days. I do not have to go out in the cold anymore. I will be sipping a cup of tea here in the house. Talk to us, we just want to help.

  20. Oh @Mee my hearts breaking for you. I'm so frickin angry with you brothers, they are total c u next Tuesdays. Just remember they need to live with their actions and look at themselves in the mirror. Users, betrayers, selfish cunty scum suckers, that's what they need to live with. You selflessly gave of yourself for your parents for years, ensuring despite their cruelty and faults they could live their lives complete with their crazy dunny paper rituals. You did it with grace and omg how you continued to turn the other cheek is beyond me. I know this seems harsh but I think it's time to cut the dead wood and rot from your life. Your brothers are like a malignant, cancerous tumour on your happiness....cut them off, blood and genetics are just an accident of fate (seriously is there any chance your parents bought the wrong baby home from hospital cos you are nothing like these nasty shits) and the family you chose and made for yourself us pretty bloody fantastic...you have lots of love and acceptance out there with your hubby, kids, inkaws, grand kids, friends, us .... you deserve and are so much better than them. Wash your hands, say goodbye and heal.

  23. I drank two cups of coffee for as long as I could remember and after I quit smoking I went down to just one a day, not even trying. These days I'm lucky to drink one full cup. I also use to drink dr. Pepper everyday and after quitting and getting my taste buds back found it wasn't as good as I thought it was lol. I can't even remember the last time I had one!

  24. @Gus My experience was that it was much easier to give up coffee than cigs, and by giving up the coffee it made giving up the cigs that much less traumatic. I still drink a cup every once in a while mostly as an excuse to get out of the house. But yeah, caffeine is no bueno for yoda.

  30. @MeeI am so sorry to hear of your loss(es). I have had similar challenges with legal things and sibs following my father's death five years ago. I have also seen the story so many times in my work life. My best advice? Let go. There is no point in fighting for relationships that are not balanced. I am not saying walk away from your inheritance if indeed there is one. But be mindful of getting involved in a legal drama as it never ends well. I don't know that grief ever ends. I think we just learn to live with it better. Sending wishes for grace and ease your way.

About us

QuitTrain®, a quit smoking support community, was created by former smokers who have a deep desire to help people quit smoking and to help keep those quits intact.  This place should be a safe haven to escape the daily grind and focus on protecting our quits.  We don't believe that there is a "one size fits all" approach when it comes to quitting smoking.  Each of us has our own unique set of circumstances which contributes to how we go about quitting and more importantly, how we keep our quits.
