  2. That crutch as you call it, is what is holding you down and holding you back. It isnt a crutch instead it is a ball and chain in the deep end of the swimming pool.

  3. This is not my first quit but it is the first time I have jumped into on-line support. Lurked about in 2005 which I am now realizing was the predecessor site in all likelihood. It makes a difference. I look forward to each and every person's comments. Even if they just do a "like" it lets me know I am not alone. There is a whole wave of support here to release that which no longer serves. Well, it never served; we just thought it did. Now armed with information and like-minded friends, we can hour-by-hour, then day-by-day, get free. Eventually, it won't occupy the same headspace which is such a relief. Thanks and have a great day.

  4. OPAH over a year now and you still letting Nic challenge you. Remember Physical addiction is gone all the Nic receptors are gone! So it is all in your Mind now, Be the mental magnificent you are and tell Nic to hit the road, beat feet, Don't let the door hit him on the ass on his way out. You have the control, you are in charge. Get up and get busy, If you do not have your hard candies, go get a ding dong and a pop. By the way we really need to avoid the real sugars Bud, but for the now it is OK. Lets do what you need to do, I am here for you, we shatter the silence with our words and our thoughts, Nic has nothing on us, we are in command, send Nic walking off of the POOP deck and give him a big long flush. We are free of Nic now act like it.

  5. G’day Yes you’ll think ….real smokers just like me. Ha I resemble that comment… Yep that me including those little lies I tell myself to protect my ego and continue to smoke. We’re not here to stoke our egos. We just tell it as it is. Me I don’t want to forget. Never forget ..so I never become that smoker again!

  6. G’day Yep I remember that. And when the cig butt got stuck to your lip you continued to try and take the cig from your mouth and the glowing cherry burnt between your fingers. Ouch. Then it dropped on your lap. You jumped up And brushed it off real quick in a cloud of sparks. Then jumped around marking sure you weren’t setting something else alight. Crap! There’s a smouldering bit burning on your shorts. Spit on you finger and use that that to put it out. O well that’s my excitement for the day. Where was I … yes better light another smoke to make up for that 1/2 finished one and that will calm my nerves. Yep that addict, that was me

  7. I moved from Los Angeles, CA to Hooper, Colorado (population 135) in 2014. It was like I landed in some type of lunar hell: between living next to the Great Sand Dunes National Park with 60 MPH winds and brown-out in spring. Followed by multiple WEEKS of -25 to 40 degrees temps in the winter. It was very confusing when my sports car did not start as it was too damn cold (I've since purchased an AWD). Nonetheless I smoked outside, risking frostbite of course. That was true dedication. Don't let anyone tell us we (EX) smokers don't have commitment! One night I accidentally locked myself out of my apartment. Couldn't wake my landlords. Fortunately my neighbor let me sleep on her couch. Now, did I quit? Uh, no. I made sure I left a spare key outside so that I would never lock myself out again.

  8. It's really good to see you here .... This means you want to rid yourself of the horrible addiction of smoking nicotine ....I was where you are once ....just trying to find that one thing that would free me once and for all of my 52 year smoking addiction .... I had tried every method know to man ...always to end up back to smoking ... I was given a sharp shock .... prospect of losing a limb or two...all of a sudden Just trying wasn't a option it was time to do.... I smoked my last 3 ciggerette,s...with tears flowing ... How would I manage without my crutch ..my friend for so many years ....I searched the web looking for that one thing I hadn't tried ... I stumbled on a group of people ...QSMB ....then The Quit Train .... They gave me the Knowledge...showed me the way ....armed me with my tools to beat this monster....they guided me every step of the way .People from all over the world ,they cared ,they understood .... I did it ...I free,d myself ....I still feel that sense of pride ... I stay to tell anyone that will listen ....jump on the Train....give yourself the best Chance you can to free yourself.....your so worth it ....don't be shy... It's your life ...and you only get one ..... We will welcome you ...

  10. Long gone are the days in which the smell of a cig is good (to me). I met up with an old college buddy of mine of the holiday break and we were both saying how nasty it is now that we have long quits under our belts. Trust me there comes a time that the smell is nowhere near appealing and it will downright sicken you. Keep up the good work.

  20. I got wound up so freaking bad, breath eat some sweets and calm down, then some thing would ramp me back up. all night it was that way Up and down every thing so quite nothing was stirring. I would run off to my hunting forum and there again no one was home. I went to the SOS and stared reading every ones self responses, Now let me tell you those really helped. You can tell your self off and not get offended, I think that is one of the bestest, unique, Post here on the Train.

  23. I nearly lost an eyebrow one time. All hunched over, trying to light one up on a windy day. Everybody talks about the heart and lung issues caused by smoking. The threat of self-immolation doesn't get as much attention.

  24. Great post @Doreensfree, I stumbled upon my first forum from googling the quit symptoms I was having and each one led me to my first forum QSMB where I lurked for about three weeks before that one post stood out so much that I registered to thank that individual. And I'm so glad I did because I truly believe that it was through the support and understanding of others who had or were walking the same path to freedom that I'm over five years free now

About us

QuitTrain®, a quit smoking support community, was created by former smokers who have a deep desire to help people quit smoking and to help keep those quits intact.  This place should be a safe haven to escape the daily grind and focus on protecting our quits.  We don't believe that there is a "one size fits all" approach when it comes to quitting smoking.  Each of us has our own unique set of circumstances which contributes to how we go about quitting and more importantly, how we keep our quits.
