  8. I am going to take this a different way. Sitting here on the couch with back door open five feet away. The cool air drifting in, two of the pups here on the couch with me and the big boy laying on the patio enjoying the cool night. Keeping his home safe and without worry. I wanted to go off to a pity party, we all tend go to the bad sometimes. I am not thinking of smoking. Just missing the crazy activity that this house has seen. A house full of little boys, and the next day (or so it seemed) a house full of teenage boys that were always hungry. The yelling and laughter as they played the latest video games. Making pallets on the floor for those that wanted to stay the night. Making pancakes, bacon and eggs for them in the morning. They drank so much milk we should have bought a dairy cow. They may not remember but I will. I still get to see most of them, all grown up, most are married with young children of their own. There is one who still calls me Mom. Then I realized I am not alone, you all are here with just a few clicks of a button. Is that not a miracle, a blessing that none of us have to go through this challenge alone. I am so grateful, thankful to all of you. You wait and listen for me if I struggle. You give comfort, advice, make me laugh, share your hardships and your joy. I am truly thankful for all of you. K

  9. Still winning Location: Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire, England Quit Date: 12th March 2014 Posted August 2, 2014 Hi Abby, I think if we don't understand it can be too daunting to quit. I, like many others, knew that times when we couldn't smoke were hard (train journey, plane, car etc). We were pretty desperate by the time we could smoke again. That's because after 20 minutes or so, the nicotine in a cig starts to come out of your blood stream - it creates a lack which grows and hey presto, you think about smoking and do so the next time you can. Hope this makes sense so far To not smoke is actually easier, really, I'm being straight with you. Yes initially, you get those cravings, but they are only thoughts and can only control us if we let them. After that you actually don't start to crave every 20 minutes or so, it just gets less and less. Hoping this still makes sense and trying to take you the science type route. Emotionally it's a journey. However there are literally millions of ex smokers, look at it logically, if it were that hard millions wouldn't be able todo it Allen Carr book called easy way to stop smoking works great for some folks. You can still smoke while you read it. Whyquit.com worked better for me as did reading all the info on this site that's pinned at the top of each forum. People say education is key and it's true. When we can start to change our mindset from we need to smoke to be ok it gets easier. And that's where the self education comes in, you basically read and get info that appeals to your personality but the end result is the same. We know smoking is bad for us, we choose to ignore it. Educating means we can stop ignoring it and realize some uncomfortable times and some fabulous times (honest there is both!!) mean nothing in the face of the freedom we all now feel. Better health, better finances but also self worth. Keep talking as something you say may trigger something in you that makes your mind start to work against the addiction and read up, it honestly does help. Worst case, it can't hurt to do some reading and some talking right. xx Link to original thread: https://www.quittrain.com/topic/8-posting-an-sos/

This means you want to rid yourself of the horrible addiction of smoking nicotine ....I was where you are once ....just trying to find that one thing that would free me once and for all of my 52 year smoking addiction .... I had tried every method know to man ...always to end up back to smoking ... I was given a sharp shock .... prospect of losing a limb or two...all of a sudden Just trying wasn't a option it was time to do.... I smoked my last 3 ciggerette,s...with tears flowing ... How would I manage without my crutch ..my friend for so many years ....I searched the web looking for that one thing I hadn't tried ... I stumbled on a group of people ...QSMB ....then The Quit Train .... They gave me the Knowledge...showed me the way ....armed me with my tools to beat this monster....they guided me every step of the way .People from all over the world ,they cared ,they understood .... I did it ...I free,d myself ....I still feel that sense of pride ... I stay to tell anyone that will listen ....jump on the Train....give yourself the best Chance you can to free yourself.....your so worth it ....don't be shy... It's your life ...and you only get one ..... We will welcome you ...

  17. So here I am setting pretty victorious at my desk, My Manager can force me to answer my phone any time I am off of work. He was not happy about that, and now he has to write a retraction on a Email letter of warning he wrote to me. My crew and I raised enough unrest that we all are getting paid for the holiday. another OOOOPs moment for the management.

  25. Welcome back aboard the train Darcy. I'm glad you chose to quit smoking again. Remember that even the strongest people stumble sometimes. It's what you do after you get back up that matters. So, dust yourself off and kick that nasty nicotine monster to the curb. You are much stronger than the addiction and need to start believing in yourself. Just grab your seat and enjoy the ride to a happier and healthier life.

  26. She plays with and talks to Pumpy on a daily basis. I don't have a clue what we're going to do with him after Christmas. Right now, it's looking like Pumpy is going to be a permanent fixture around here. A idea for you ...lol...

  28. Jesus I have been in jail for so long and did not know. The major thing in my life was the same, did I have enough cigs to get thru the day. I need to stop on the way home to get a carton, not a pack but a carton. When can I sneak away and have a smoke. Why is my habit worse than others that drink to much. eat to much. I finally have realized I do all those things and it is not acceptable. This just brings a whole lot of issues I need to deal with and I am not happry about it. Things are going to get alot harder but I will tackle it a step at a time.that is all I can do, admit the problem and try to do better.

  29. Thanks to everyone for your well wishes and support. Special thanks to Dorren for posting a picture of my husband. You are all great source of comfort and peace. I will not lie, for me the battle is still raging but the truth is we are all doing we thought was impossible. We are doing these with the support of people we have never met. It strikes me as sad and odd that so often our families, friends never tell us (me) that they are proud, that we (me) are doing great. I know that is my fault as I have pushed everyone away for various reasons. I think that prepared me for quiting. It is something that I can do for me. It has been along time since I put me first but here I am at 62, putting me first. That is what I have to say today, realize that sometimes you have to put yourself and your health first. You should be doing this for you and only you. I shall never be young again but I can have productive, happy, healthy years to do things I enjoy that matter to me. I have come to know myself without obligation to others and who they think I should be, I get to choose and so do you. Be your best self, do the things that bring you joy, peace, let the rest of it go. Love and best wishes! K

  30. Great post @Doreensfree, I stumbled upon my first forum from googling the quit symptoms I was having and each one led me to my first forum QSMB where I lurked for about three weeks before that one post stood out so much that I registered to thank that individual. And I'm so glad I did because I truly believe that it was through the support and understanding of others who had or were walking the same path to freedom that I'm over five years free now

  31. According to one of the younger guys at work, Bon Jovi is now considered "soccer mom rock." I won't be deterred by the opinion of some smartass little whippersnapper...I like these songs.

About us

QuitTrain®, a quit smoking support community, was created by former smokers who have a deep desire to help people quit smoking and to help keep those quits intact.  This place should be a safe haven to escape the daily grind and focus on protecting our quits.  We don't believe that there is a "one size fits all" approach when it comes to quitting smoking.  Each of us has our own unique set of circumstances which contributes to how we go about quitting and more importantly, how we keep our quits.
