Hello you beautiful nicotine free creatures ! Thank you for the celebratory thread. It means a lot, that's for true. I love y'all ! This was the first year I nearly forgot the date. Probably because I haven't been looking in on QTrain. Smoking ? I haven't considered it seriously for these Eight years. The first year was a slog but, I never doubted my commitment to myself, I Quit Smoking. I will never smoke again. I say this with vigilant confidence and an understanding of the nature of addiction. I end and greet each day, grateful for being nicotine free. Every day, twice a day. This is one way my vigilance manifests. Darling Newbies, Educate yourselves ! Don't be lazy about this. Research how nicotine affects the brain to comprehend what you are experiencing. Sure, the feel-good touchy-feelie stuff support is great but without grounded information about nicotine addiction it won't help you fully understand your addiction. And you should understand your addiction. It is Who You Are. Watch Joel Spitzer's videos. Joel's library is comprehensive and accessible. Use this gift ! Check out my Topics and Blogs. There are some gems hidden therein. I spent a lot of years here and love seeing the information travel to new eyes. Love to everybody. Thank y'all for your work. Sazerac's all around, and a bowl of Legendary Gumbo. It is almost getting cool enough to start on my stocks. S6 points

Sazerac is a Legendary Quitter! Congratulations on eight years! She is also the maker of a Legendary Gumbo. Her recipe is 8 pages long and takes 3 days to make. Here is some of her instructions: Cut up and bone duck, refrigerate. Liver, sauteed with garlic in duck fat, pssst spit of cognac for Chef. Giblets chopped, neck cracked and roasted. I hope she makes some gumbo to celebrate. Here's some music for the party: California Honeydrops "When It Was Wrong" 2011 - YouTube3 points

@Opah, I'm thrilled for you! I've been watching you for 3 years here and another at qsmb. I really think that accepting that we're addicts is why you have finally gotten your forever quit2 points

For some the admittance of weakness or vulnerability is a tough one. I worked hard at what ever it was I was doing, I strived to be the best or at least better than most. not sure where I got that but it was ingrained in me and I was proud of it. To be called addicted, addict or defective was totally against all that I believed in myself. I am sure Jill or Doreen could tell you stories about me arguing with them about being cured and not being addicted any more. Sure enough I would test it and throw a 7, 6 month quit down the toilet. Now I believe I am strong enough to admit my weakness, and the fact that my addiction to nicotine will never go away, I will get to be manageable, but feed it and it will jump right back up and take control all over again. So here I am, educated, self assured, and ready to do the work necessary to Keep my quit, and Damn it I will continue to succeed.2 points

One week from today ! This was the reason I was able to let go of the $1500.00 for My BBAR and sight and ammo, Yes for me it is that big a deal. Not sure how many years it has been 2 maybe 3, I am sure their are more than a couple here that know for sure. That one year smoke free anniversary has eluded me, yes it was me no excuses there, a jack ass in side that believe he had all the answers and control, that would not speak the word addiction or addict. After all I am not sticking a needle in my arm now am I? Years it has taken me to except that Nicotine had a grip on me even after 10 or 11 months of abstinence. See the word abstinence triggers the thought process of NO SEX, Not no Nicotine or no smoking. Ugly words they are and my self image would not apply such Ugliness to my image of my self. Well I have now, not to me now but to me the smoker, I can close mt eye invasion me smoking and what I see is ugly, no more romantic mountain man in the cloud covered mountains, Tranquil and soft puffing on a smoke. I see a yellow smile, smelly, coughing some thing people avoided. It took me finally being able to apply those ugly words to my self. For me this is not seven steps, it is a life long process constantly changing with my ability to love and care for myself, to see the ugly and the handsome sides of me. Be able to tell the truth and not lie to myself.2 points

Hey Tara! I’m 7 months into my one and only quit. I absolutely know without a doubt that I would not survive another quit. It’s the reason I will never smoke again. I just can’t. Keep your quit. At all costs. It truly will be worth it if you do. It gets so much easier, in time. I promise you that it does!1 point

Thank you, everyone, for helping me celebrate being smoke free, for 5 full months. I have had some cravings, but nothing I couldn’t handle.1 point

I gave myself frequent rewards like a dinner at a nice restaurant or new sneakers. After some time and significant savings I'd go for bigger stuff like a new sofa or new truck. But, by far, the best reward came from my body itself. I went from a tired couch potato to an extremely active hiker and backpacker. Here's a picture of the reward I'm giving myself very soon. Two weeks of backpacking the John Muir Trail.1 point

Bump for newbies. Rewards are an essential component of a successful quit. The sooner you train your brain to accept TRUE rewards and reject poisonous addiction the better you will feel.1 point

Bump for our fabulous Newbies, I am so happy y'all quit smoking. Stay strong and breathe deep glorious breaths of Freedom and Reward yourselves ! S1 point

The picture of our receptors being pirated by nicotine. These are the receptors of our reward responses that thankfully return to normal when we quit but, can be encouraged and hastened during the change by actively rewarding yourself. Edited to find the photo and can't but, this may be helpful1 point

I am bumping this to remind us to retrain our addicted brains, otherwise we are highly susceptible to relapse. Taking those few deep clean conscious breaths works wonders.1 point
