I just spent 15 min typing about the cravings I've been having today because it is such a nice cool, breezy day which is the type of day I would really enjoy hiking and a smoke. Deleted it all because it was rambling and I got through the craving anyway. Point is, if you are having a difficult time, get on here and type. Whether you keep what you type or delete it, just the act of typing can be enough to get you through a craving.6 points

Thank you! I am going in my 3rd day of camping with family and no cigarettes. Three more days of camping and hopefully I will have a strong hold at the beginning stages of being a non-smoker. This road is all too familiar and glad to be on my way. Hopefully stay close to you all. ENJY Today and stay nicotine free!5 points

Good for you for fighting through the craving. Cravings do go away. As you know, there is no such thing as a perfect day/time etc. for a smoke. I attempted to quit smoking the first time about 15 years ago and used the excuse of a nice spring day as a reason to smoke one or two. No big deal, I thought. Well, my quit was ruined and I didn't attempt another quit for several years. Nothing good comes from smoking. I'm glad you kept the quit. Keep up the great work.4 points

@JustinHoot99 Weather is great here as well, my dogs are crazy with happiness in the yard. I sit by the back door and watch. Not that I would not go out with them, having one of those stay in your PJ's kind of days. Normally I would go out and sit on the patio but I have a neighbor that always comes out when he hears my pups. He is a nice guy, I just do not want to talk to him every time I am outside. I have a privacy fence around the yard except for on that side. I like the open space and do not want to put one up. All the way down the street we just have the old fashioned chain link on that side. I have great neighbors all over, we are friendly but this one guy as nice as he is can be like the small child that follows you to the bathroom. Remember that good hike would someday be ruined if you could not do it because you could not breathe to go do it. You are doing so great and should be proud! K3 points

I have been diligent in following my routine of two 2 mile power walks daily, and have gradually been increasing my incline, which , in turn, increases my calorie burn. Incline is up to 5%, by the end of each session. I am also doing some work with the weight bar. Nothing crazy. I just want to shape and tone a bit. This morning I went an extra quarter mile, just because I knew I could. I remain proud of my drive and determination to improve my physical stamina, and just be healthier, in general. I am impressed with my 70 year old self.2 points

tbh i found this site a couple of weeks before i signed up. normally i wouldn't have joined a site like this but having somewhere to piss and moan about the agony of suffering from my own stupidity is therapeutic. and having people that will help and not judge my stupidity does get me emotional. A big thank you from the bottom of my heart to all those who made this site possible.2 points

Have you been following along, reading posts, but too nervous to actually pull the trigger and start your quit? Does just the thought of waking up and knowing you can't have a smoke give your belly butterflies and cause severe anxiety? Afraid you can't handle the let down of having yet another failure on top of the umpteen past failures? That pretty much sums up me a bit over a month ago. After 40 yrs of smoking, I'd been through a lot of "count down is made but no lift off" tries plus 6 attempts where I actually got past 3 days but failed in less than a month. But I'm glad as heck I decided to try one more time or I would not be at day 34 of my quit. My best quit in the past was only 18days. What was different this time? If I knew, I'd write a book and be a millionaire. I can tell you that having a support group has been extremely helpful. If I had to give my best guess, that would be it. I spent a lot of time on here when I quit 34 days ago (cold turkey). I read new posts, old posts, introduced myself, commented on about everything even if just to say I don't have the experience to have a good opinion. Just typing is very theraputic. But having the support and feedback of the many people on here that were either starting their quits or have been quit for many years was priceless. I guess what I'm saying is if you've been following but nervous about trying, just introduce yourself. We can help you with planning your quit and support you if/when you do decide to quit, or just answer any questions you might have. I found the hardest part of quitting was just getting up the nerve to pull the trigger on day 1 and actually start my quit. What I found was that the fear was completely overblown. So say yes to better health (and saving money and time) and being back in control of your life. Quitting is doable, as many people on this site can attest to. Having a support group go through it with you just makes it easier.1 point

Typing and deleting works. And reading what others wrote, the joys, frustrations, long timers, newbies, anything. This place helps me ease my urges. Thanks. I’m hoping to find my way back here each and every time a weakness pops up. See….craving gone. There. It worked!1 point

Hi @Opah I am happy that things are going so well for you. It is just the simple things in life that bring the joy and calm. I took myself out last week for a great burger. It was so good, I hate going alone and never thought I could do things without my love but I have learned that sometimes I need a treat, not good for me but it was not a smoke! I do not work anymore but I miss the social contact I had at work. Being around others that work hard, care about what they do is very wonderful thing to have. I miss that! K1 point

I come here and read the new posts almost everyday. It helps me to not just forget about trying to quit, and it also helps me to stay quit longer at times. I'm glad this site is here.1 point

Me too. This site was and still is being a life saver for me. I know I've checked out sites related to all kinds of thing, just reading from the background, considering, sometimes wishing. All I can say is if you are lurking and quitting is something you've been thinking about doing for a while, you really should give it a try. It's hard, and it's annoying, but it's not half of the terror you are running through your mind. That "terror" you feel when you think of trying is your subconscious kicking into overdrive to "protect" what it perceives as something you need for survival. It creates the illusion that this is some monstrous thing to even be considering. In reality, deciding to pull the trigger and quit is probably the hardest part of recovery from nicotine addiction. I would equate it to an alcoholic admitting they need help and committing to getting the help. Once you set a quit date and actually start the quit on that date, you've pulled the trigger and you are on your way. There will be difficult days, and I'm having one today, but you can get through them. So if you are reading this, and have been considering it, for your health and happiness, give it a chance and try to quit. This group helped me quit, and we can help you as well. Both your health and your wallet will thank you.1 point

Our guidelines are simple. If your post content, signatures, profile images, etc. are disruptive and impact our members' enjoyment of our community we may ask you to refrain from such actions or revoke your access to this community. As I've stated elsewhere my views on freedom of speech or more aptly, the right to be published, as is often the case here, I've added them to QT's guidelines. There is a difference between freedom of speech and the right to be published. Freedom of speech will only give people the right to make their own web site to express their opinions, but they may not demand to be published on any other web sites. A good example is book publishing: You may write your own book, but you may not go to a publisher and demand them to publish it for you. If you want to publish it, and there are no publishers willing to do it, you would have to print the book yourself and contact any stores and ask them if they would sell it. If nobody will sell it, you'll have to open your own store to sell it. We're here to help and support one another and have some fun along the way. This is your community. Make it count for something.--MQ1 point
