  6. Cycled a 26 mile loop down a river trail to Huntington Beach yesterday afternoon- about 13 miles into a solid ocean breeze. Legs are sore today. Days are getting shorter & my rides are ending just past dusk. Might need to quit my job so I have more time to play

  7. There's a dangerous serious of events gathering that's creating the perfect craving storm: Wife is going out w/ her friends tonight, I'm bored, I'm tired. My old boss called and wants to know if I would consider taking a job in his dept which would mean much more money and benefits, but give up a job that pays reasonably well and that I love and have a lot of freedom in. Tough decision. Perfect time for me to sneak out, buy a pack, and enjoy 5 or 6 cigarettes while taking a slow, enjoyable walk in the woods. Wife would never know. Plus, it's been 36 days and I really do deserve a break from the cravings for just one night. I'm sure I could start again tomorrow and no one would be the wiser. Except I know it will never turn out like that. If I smoke tonight, I'll throw the pack away tonight in a fit of rage, swearing this was just a one time thing. Then tomorrow, with my confidence and mojo gone, I'll buy another pack. And I won't stop. It always plays out that way. It'll be well over a year before I get the courage and inner strength to try again. Tonights smoke will cost me $4000 and require I smoke at least 7000 more in that one year. Do I really want to start sneaking around and scheduling my time around smoking again? Leaving or avoiding activities because it would interfere w/ my getting my fix? Am I really that stupid that I would give up a 36day quit and pay $4000 for the 5 or 6 cigarettes. 36 days ago I was desperate to be where I am now. With one reckless behavior tonight, I could place myself right back there again. I would prefer hitting my head w/ a skillet or my thumb w/ a hammer over that. Time to stop whining like a little B. (my private mantra) I will make tomorrow day 37. Thanks for listening. Typing is a great distraction.

  9. You`ve got it right. Not worth it. I spent years doing exactly what you talk about. Stay strong and hang tough. Easier days lie ahead.

  10. @Doreensfree thank you for welcoming me in here. i'm still trying to solve the issue at hand. Kris offered me a strategy that i think could yield some good results. unfortunately life got in the way and i'll have to wait until this evening to put it into play. i'm assuming that 40 years of using coffee and a cigarette as a poop trigger has left my colon just as confused as my emotions. here's to hopefully having a sleepless night!!

  13. I had a great time at the before and at the wedding But I am here to say I came so close to throwing my quit away. Holy crap The wine and champagne at the house before the wedding, champagne In the limo ride to the wedding, the wedding was at the Detroit Whiskey factory, So a whole lot of drinking at the wedding!!! I we went outside to get some fresh air and don't you know there was someone out there smoking and even my brand I really even took one which I wanted and thought a minute before I lit it and said no thanks and gave it back, which I really did not want to. Very close call. But this AM thank God I did.But this morning with the hang over I remember why I don't drink like that anymore. But it was a great time last night and a whole lot of fun!!! But no smoking. So I'm not safe yet!!! But I have the train to thank for that.I almost did an SOS but had no service there.

  16. Yesterday , I was on my 2nd session on my treadmill, when I started to feel very hungry, as I hadn’t eaten in hours, and just felt like my blood sugar had plummeted, so I stopped after 1 mile and had a snack and some water. After 25 minutes , or so, I resumed my set, but the machine had not stored my data. It holds it for 10 minutes, in case you need a rest. I knew I had stopped at exactly 1 mile, though. Theoretically, I should have done just one more mile. However, revitalized, I started all over and did 2 miles. So, I power walked 5 miles uphill yesterday.

  17. Good on you for posting and getting it out, I hope the craving lost its strength from you doing that You'll get your break much faster by not caving to a crave. That will only start your addiction all over again. I know you don't really want to smoke or else you would have never posting this SOS so well done Justin

  21. so you think 5 years from now you'll look back and say to yourself "Gee, I sure am glad I didn't quit smoking"? Now grow a spine and deal with your emergency. It's not like you can hide behind weaknesses so you might as well be strong. I mean think about how easy modern life really is...you're most difficult task in life is to stop doing something stupid. What if you had to go out and hunt for your next meal, or carry water from a spring that was a mile and half away from the house, what if you lived in a time where toilet paper wasn't a thing??? get some perspective

  22. Thanks @Jordan7I have tried the treat variety in years past. I so not know it there is one made by Triflexis...that is the medication they are on for heartworm protection and also contains medicine that keeps them flea and tick free and other types of worms. All three are indoor pets, and in fact the two littles started to sleep with me when my husband died. Don't want any visitors of the insect kind. I would go as far to say they live a better life than me. They go to the spa, get their hair done, mani-pedies, and what I call the brazilian butt cleaning. They also get dental cleaning for their pearly whites. Nothing out there that will help me but damn my dogs look good!!

  28. That's been our experience with Cash. We give him Heartgard Plus, a beef flavored chewable. Administering the drug is a simple matter of putting the cube near his mouth and saying "there ya go." He woofs it right down every time.

  32. I don't think an addict ever stops having cravings. Less often as time goes on, but I've read profiles of people who gave in to a craving after 5 and even 10 years. But you managed to stop yourself even under the influence of alcohol. That's a huge success.

  33. @Linda, it takes a good year to get past all the triggers you may face throughout any given year. Then there are the events that don't happen regularly that also can cause craves. You have to remember that you smoked for years and its just not realistic to think that in only 9 months time you would be over any craves so give yourself a break. You did it now the next wedding will be that much easier

  34. Well done getting past that Linda, you should be very proud of yourself

  35. I’m so glad that you took that minute to think before you lit that cigarette up! It’s great that you’ve seen that for an addict the temptation never truly goes away and that we all need to remain vigilant when guarding our quits. You did great!

About us

QuitTrain®, a quit smoking support community, was created by former smokers who have a deep desire to help people quit smoking and to help keep those quits intact.  This place should be a safe haven to escape the daily grind and focus on protecting our quits.  We don't believe that there is a "one size fits all" approach when it comes to quitting smoking.  Each of us has our own unique set of circumstances which contributes to how we go about quitting and more importantly, how we keep our quits.
