G’day Time. I’ve got all this time back that I used to spend smoking or planing to smoke or worrying if I could get the time to slip one in. I can now just stop..... and do nothing. I used to say I had a bushmans breakfast. A pee... A smoke ... and a quik look about. Now a quik pee and a seat and a good look about.7 points

I got a new car shortly before I quit, and had not smoked in it. It’s nice that, now, no one will ever smoke in it.6 points

I'm happy that I can taste and smell properly again...had no idea what I was missing out on all these years! Also my clothes, house and car no longer smell of smoke...it's great!6 points

No cough, I am sure I don't smell like an ashtray but I must have in the past. Did not smoke in the house but the car must have been horrible, I think it must be better. Do not smell it on others but I go out rarely now with pandemic. I suffer from chronic migraine which effects my sense of smell but I do know I breathe easier and it only just over a month K5 points

People always said that to me too. I always thought they were just being kind or had no sense of smell whatever. I could always smell it on someone, even when I was still a smoker.5 points

Money stayed in my purse a lot longer, not as many trips to the auto bank lol. Needed air fresheners in my old car as it stank like a stale ash tray! Had a new car 18 months ago, smell great in there, no one will ever smoke in mine either, they can walk if they won’t put that filth out5 points

@IamMommaBear, so glad to see you posted an SOS here. These are the steps to getting to your final quit. We were smokers for many years and there are many triggers that will cause us to crave. Each time you overcome the crave, you get stronger and the crave gets weaker so it gets easier to deal with the next crave. There are many here who smoked for 30, 40+ years and managed to quit successfully. You're doing it too. Stay close to this board for the 1st few weeks.5 points

Great job posting IamMommaBear! I had lightheadedness. I think it’s pretty normal. If it continues for a prolonged period or comes with weakness and/or confusion you may want to talk to your doctor about it. I’ve been following your quit and you are doing awesome. I’m 55, 35 year 2pk a day smoker with anxiety issues. The initial quit was so hard and horrible for me. But I survived. I thought that my mind would break a few times but I survived! I’m 4 and 1/2 months into my quit and it DOES get easier. So very much easier! I promise!4 points

After I had been quit about 3 months, I had a pizza and put my normal amount of crushed red peppers on it. It set me on fire!! Welcome back, taste buds!!!4 points

I kind of felt this coming. Having been in bad situations taught me hope for the best and plan for the worst. I have enough supplies to get me thru for 2 or 3 months if it comes to that if we have to lockdown again. I pray that will not happen but I am ready. If you can and have the space it is not a bad idea for us older compromised people. K4 points

My sense of smell it was amazing the difference (both good and bad smells lol) I can clock another smoker at a 100 paces now lol 2 of my kids came to visit a few weeks ago, they both commented I no longer "smell like smoke" I always smoked outside so here I thought I was avoiding that....wrong!4 points

Awesome @Dianne. You got that right - smoking will not solve anything but WILL make you feel bad about losing the quit. At least you can tackle the problems knowing you still have something to be proud about.3 points

NOPE Wow, I just looked at the number of cigarettes I didn't smoke and the amount of money I saved. Incredible. And that's with less than a year and a half of being quit.3 points

I noticed that smokers stink- damn I used to stink like that?????3 points

Every time you want a cigarette but choose to abstain, you are reprogramming your brain. Trust the process Momma Bear. You're doing great.3 points

@jillar better, thanks. I'm only getting a few of these overwhelming cravings each day but when I do...just wow. I'm going to keep fighting through them.3 points

@IamMommaBearGood on you for posting. Keep fighting through because it does pass. I am almost at 2 months and still coughing up black gunk and all that fun stuff. I get cravings but they are getting less and less. I am glad I have support here.2 points

That is a great idea, Kris. And I'd rather be focused for a while on getting some back up supplies rather than watching the data. I keep things like canned beans and corn, plus water, but I have to remember to rotate them out and replace with new ones before expiration dates.2 points

Hate to say it because I am woman but I could grow one too! Not gonna do it and send you a picture but yours is great! Us girls never knew that we could get facial hair in old age. I am glad for you but sad for me. LOL K2 points

First a sausage picture for Doreen: In the first year of my quit (seems like yesterday) I wrote this: The Great Escape We were in prison. We weren’t sure of it, but we were on death row. We had seen others killed. The rules requiring a swift and humane execution were not guaranteed. In fact, the torture of slow poison was in motion. What bugged us most was not the prison or even the death sentence, but that the punishment seemed way out of proportion to our crime. It was unfair. There had been rumors of escape, but even so, our cells were solid brick. They happened somewhere else. We had run at the walls before to no avail. If we escaped, surely we would be recaptured and our imprisonment would be made even more severe. We were comfortable in our cells. It was our choice. We heard a whisper. It was so soft we could barely hear it. “If you say NOPE and laugh in Spanish like this, jajajajaja, you can walk right through the wall to freedom for ever.” That’s crazy, feel how thick and hard these walls are – there is no way we could walk through them. We’re not strong enough. What’s on the other side anyway? Tomorrow, maybe. Finally we tried it, and it worked! We ESCAPED! The wall wasn’t solid, it was made of smoke. We passed right through it. We were free. Now we help others when they escape and are blinded by sunshine and overwhelmed by fresh air. And we whisper to those still in prison, “If you say NOPE and laugh in Spanish like this, jajajajaja, you can walk right through the wall to freedom for ever.”2 points
