  5. I did a deep dive into health and fitness after I quit. If I had it to do over again, I wouldn't change a thing. Reading books about strength training and nutrition occupied my mind. The exercise helped calm me down when I was craving a smoke. The new commitment to health and fitness was antithetical to the addiction I was leaving behind; that really helped solidify my quit. I traded a deadly addiction for a healthy addiction. No regrets.

  6. OMG, I can't believe it has been 3 years. The struggle to quit seemed like it was yesterday. I am out enjoying life and spending that extra money that has accumulated. My husband has me camping in the wild. The internet is very limited. I will be back in a few days cheering on all those new quitters. You can take control of your life and live it smoke free. I never thought I could give up smoking but here I am 3 years smoke free! Thanks so much for all the congrats.

  13. Dusty Hill passed away last week. Fifty years driving the rhythm section for ZZ top and he played Hank Hill's cousin on King of the Hill. Dusty had a damn good run.

  16. Welcome, Momma Bear. I am pushing 58 and almost at 2 months into my quit now. Like Jill said, it is tough at first but push through it and you will feel better guaranteed. Lots of water and liquids. I have to watch the caffeine or else I get too jacked up. Post an SOS if you get squirrelly and we will help you through it.

  17. @jillar I was thinking even though they were adults the letter might be a good . She did mention her mothers wedding ring and her wedding ring and also the wedding ring that her husband got her for an anniversary. Thanks

  18. @jillar That's great, but her daughters are adults and all married. So she was blessed to be here for those events. She even has some great grand children. She just caught me off guard with the conversation about it. But I do feel blessed that she wanted to include me in that. Thanks for the suggestions

  22. It's good to use the built in programs or adjust the settings manually to change it up during a workout. Otherwise the repetitive nature of the motion can cause certain issues. I'd recommend mixing it up with regular outdoor sessions.

  23. @Dianne, Wow 5 days! And 2-3 days is like nothing? This is giving me hope. I'll do a 2-day fast this week. Do you do anything when breaking the fast after a few days. I've read bone broth is good but I don't have the skills to make some.

  25. I am sorry to hear that your family is sick with Covid. It is still so scary out there. We are supposed to go to a dinner event tomorrow evening, but I am thinking about skipping it. You can’t wear a mask while you eat, so….. With this very virulent delta variant running rampant, throughout the country, I am going back to full precaution mode, even though I am fully vaccinated. My fear is that things will never return to normal. People will start marking time by referring to things as “before COVID” and “after COVID”. It’s nuts!

  26. I have mine delivered , since Covid. I did over 30 minutes of power walking this morning, while the temp wasn’t too bad. My heart rate didn’t get up as high as usual, though I was walking as fast as I normally do. It could be that I took my beta blocker about an hour prior. In any case, my target heart rate is between 90 and 120, and I did maintain my heart rate within that range for 30 minutes, so I guess I’m good. I certainly worked up a good sweat. I am excited to get my treadmill set up tomorrow afternoon. The incline function should make getting my heart rate up easier.

  28. Just did 25 laps in the climbing heat. 30 minutes of moderate cardio today. I know when not to push too hard. I AM an old broad, after all…. Looking forward to having my treadmill assembled on Monday. I even got new running shoes, so I won’t soil it with my street shoes. My boyfriend thought that was bonkers. I am looking forward to using the IFit software, that is part of the deal. There is a vast library of recorded workouts with trainers, and even live classes I can join. Membership is free for a full year, so that’s a nice perk. The unit has a nice fan, and is Bluetooth enabled, so I can synchronize my iTunes library. The unit has its own built in 7 inch touch screen, or I can use my iPad. The 3.0 HP commercial grade motor should be more than strong enough for my intended use. Max speed is 12 mi/hr., and max incline is 12 %, both pretty standard, throughout the industry. No decline, but I didn’t think I’d use it, if it had it. The deck has some flex to it, to relieve stress on joints. I can turn off the flex cushioning, to simulate street running, should I so choose. I think I found the right machine for me. I paid $1,000.00 for it, on sale, and an extra $80.00, for assembly. Well worth the price, for its specs. I am excited. I will let you know how my first indoor workout goes, on Monday evening.

  30. Training- my new addiction much better than sitting around smoking. Adventures on my bike and trail running keep it interesting and fun. The initial first few weeks were tough but now that I’ve gained fitness back the process is enjoyable!! Happy Friday!!

About us

QuitTrain®, a quit smoking support community, was created by former smokers who have a deep desire to help people quit smoking and to help keep those quits intact.  This place should be a safe haven to escape the daily grind and focus on protecting our quits.  We don't believe that there is a "one size fits all" approach when it comes to quitting smoking.  Each of us has our own unique set of circumstances which contributes to how we go about quitting and more importantly, how we keep our quits.
