@Kris, I think that’s a common response. I know, I have had the same feeling. I even think some of us believe we don’t deserve to succeed at quitting, as sad as that sounds. But we do deserve to quit and live a healthier lifestyle. I do, you do, and everyone here does. Keep up the good work. You’ve got this!3 points

Thank you @Kris! The job is good! I’m not going to lie though. Some days when I walk out there a cigarette the size of my arm would be just the thing! LOL But I know that to be the lie that it is! That’s how the old me would have wanted to relax after a long stressful day at work. I am able to check up you all briefly a couple of times during the day and then in the evening when I get home. I’m never far away. I see that you are still keeping your quit and getting more familiar with how the site works. Just stay with us. We need each other. I’m not ashamed to say it. There was a time in the early stages of my quit when I didn’t need or want anything to do with anyone except for my QuitTrain friends and I thank God that they were all here!!!! Keep up the good fight and I’ll be thinking of you!2 points

I'm not typically the sensitive type. However, I was a bit offended when a friend of mine said: "Boo's the kind of guy that buys his clothes at the hardware store." That hit a little close to home. I did buy my favorite jacket at Ace Hardware. It keeps me warm on cold days. It keeps me dry on rainy days. It fits like a glove...What more could you want from a jacket? The catwalks of Milan and Paris will just have to wait.2 points

Hi John, glad to meet you! I am only a month into my quit and I must say it has not been as hard as I thought. I have my bad days where I want to smoke but I refuse to cave. If all these people can do it we can too! I like you had a health wake up, hip replacement due to smoking killed my hip joint, then cat scan showed the start of emphysema. I did not pick a day, cried for a few days knowing what I had to do. I bought my cigs by the carton and decided when there were no more I was done. So that was it, I have been using the nicotine lozenges to help but have already been able to cut that way back. That may not be the way to go, for some no nicotine is best. I like you have been in extreme caregiving role for about 15 years and I know how much that takes out of you. I will say the last hard one was also my Mom. Moved her in with me. It came to the point after 2 years I could not keep her safe at home and had to place her in care. Please don't feel bad if you have to do that, sometimes it is the best thing/ You have had the strength to do all of those things, now you need to use it to take care of you! K1 point

I am scared of where this might go just like many of you. I am vaccinated but continue to isolate as much as possible and still wear a mask when I go out. I will continue with all the safeguards going forward. I still think things are not safe yet as so many of you feel. I am concerned about financial issues as prices continue to rise. I am building safe pantry just in case, not hoarding but making sure I have the basic needs are covered in case of another lock down. Just dry goods, flour. yeast, sugar, tea, dry beans and canned veggies and meats. I of course have bought plenty of dog food for the pets as well. We all need the TP of course. I don't think it will come to that but we never expected this in the first place. These are things I would buy anyway so they will get used. I think for those of us who live alone and on a fixed income it is better to be prepared than not. At least we are saving money not buying smokes, there was a day that would be at the top of the list but not anymore. Something good has come out of the bad. K1 point

Some days you will be the light for others and some days you will need some light as long as there is light there is hope and there is a way1 point

@Abby, I am confused by your reaction to my post. It was meant to be positive, and helpful. Certainly there was nothing “hurtful” in my words. Perhaps espouses would have been a better word choice than preach? I can assure you, I did not mean to upset you, in any way. Quite the opposite, in fact.1 point

Feeling more trendy and hip than usual. I've reached that point in life where by the time I hear about a trend, it's already falling out of fashion. However, with lumber supplies low and prices rising folks on the interwebs are looking into "recycled wood." Hip urbanites are figuring out how to build furniture using old pallets. I've been using old pallets to build things for a couple of years now. And I have access to a bunch of pallets. While I recognize it is a fleeting thing, I'm enjoying temporarily feeling like a cool guy.1 point
