  11. @Kris, welcome! The initial days will be hard. Glad you're here though. Please come here often, feel free to post what you're going through. We have all been through it and will totally relate and connect. If you have a crave, post in the SOS forum. Just today someone kept their quit by posting there first. Folks will jump in to support you. I would encourage you to read through some posts in this forum, learn about the quit process. It is hard and then it's easy. Congratulations on the ears and enduring the smokers in the line - both of them are pretty awesome accomplishments.

  13. Thanks so much for the welcome and encouraging words. Had a great easy day! Went to the tattoo shop to get my ears pierced. They were running a special so the place was packed. Line around the building with smokers. Did not bother me at all, I got this. K

  14. I am keeping my own tally of days quit and my calendar says 80 days today! Double my longest quit to date. I told someone yesterday that I was fairly confident that I would never go back to smoking and she was so pleased and said that she'd never heard me say that before! I guess I still hesitate a little as I haven't really had much in the way of outside temptation as yet, but I'm going well. I seem to be hitting the mid winter depression that I often get and that's tough too but 80 days make me feel more confident. Thanks everyone!

  15. That sounds like a really long time doesn’t it? And with my Southern drawl it sounds even lonnnger. HaHa It has been a rough day today. I’ve been job hunting, so I’m stressed. All day I have been having to smell cigarette smoke as I enter into and exit out of buildings. One time I actually thought that it smelled so good! I have several job interviews next week and I’m really anxious about them. I haven’t worked in 20 years, but now I need to and the pressure to be hired is harsh. I haven’t thought that I needed or wanted to smoke, but the idea of smoking hasn’t been as abhorrent to me today either. I’m just going to have to dig deeper than I have so far and ignore the idea that smoking wasn’t so bad. It seems I recall a video and some posts concerning the dangers of romanticizing smoking. I will look those up. Like I’ve said so many times, “I only have one quit in me. I would never survive another quit.” I am an addict and I must physically and mentally distance myself from all things nicotine. I will prevail!

  18. Hey Steven, Just saw your struggle today. I am new and am only six days in. Yesterday was hard for me too! Today is better, I am trying to be proactive with anything that might help. Had a third acupuncture treatment today. I am using nicorette lozenges for now if it gets to hard to bear. I have a giant jar on my coffee table full of all types of hard candies, those little dum dum lollipops are the best. Under the coffee table I have a bottle of bourbon. I have driven my neighbors crazy, bringing them homemade cookies and bread. (keeps me busy). I went to the hobby shop, got word search puzzles (to make sure I don't lose my mind) and some neat color projects, very fine images,, you have to pay attention. I leave alone, a widow, grown son married but I do have company. Three dogs, and they keep me busy, had only two littles and my best friend passed and I now have an 80# pure blood chow. Sorry I have been so chatty, I do find it helps to talk. STAY STRONG TRY EVERYTHING AND ANYTHING. THAT IS MY MANTRA! I WILL WIN AND YOU WILL WIN! K

  22. Day 67 , 68, you are kicking butt . Gerd is common after you quit smoking as well and what is known as quitters flu in the early days . Putting the head of your bed up is helpful,as is eating nothing after six . Hope that helps .

  30. I think I may be the weird one here. In February 2020 I started having pain low back and hip. Went to the GP, pinched nerved, inflammation....medicine, heat, ice, rest. Would get better and then flair again, and then COVID. Could not go to the doctor for awhile. Finally back to GP, reflexes were off, something is wrong with your back, sent to ortho, spine guy. He took xrays, not back/spine, hip problem and it is bad. He did not go into detail. Had to wait 2 weeks to see the hip guy and all the while pain is getting worse. Spine guy, your hip has collapsed. Tried twice to do MRI but could not stay still due to pain, had to go to hospital and get put under to get the MRI. Diagnosis, AVN avascular necrosis(never heard of it vary rare) the top of my femur had died and broken apart due to lack of blood supply from smoking and increased by my alcohol consumption after my husband died inn 2010. Had to wait a couple of more weeks before they could do total hip replacement and one suicide attempt later due to pain,. finally done. Recover from hip replacement a breeze compared to earlier pain Regular G{ check up, insurance now pays for lung cancer screening, had the CT, not cancer but the start of emphysema. I have watched people suffer this slow horrible death, I will not do it, I will not make my son watch it and take care of me, he had enough pain with his Dad. SO I AM DONE! K

  36. Well done Gus ....100 days is a Quit to be proud of ... Your still though in the early stages ...so your wise to stay on your guard ... I agree with Jill...you have a much better chance of getting a job ,as a Non Smoker... I know it's stressful ...but adding nicotine withdrawal along with the stress would be awful... I wish you well in your job search

About us

QuitTrain®, a quit smoking support community, was created by former smokers who have a deep desire to help people quit smoking and to help keep those quits intact.  This place should be a safe haven to escape the daily grind and focus on protecting our quits.  We don't believe that there is a "one size fits all" approach when it comes to quitting smoking.  Each of us has our own unique set of circumstances which contributes to how we go about quitting and more importantly, how we keep our quits.
