  5. Sorry for your bad day Linda. The why is because we smoked for so long. Unfortunately this whole first year you may experience bad days as we go through all the seasons, holidays, etc a year brings. That's why we have the One Year Commitment. To keep our support close by as we go through most of the triggers. Of course there's probably always going to be the odd trigger here and there but it's easily swept away the longer we stay quit

  11. Laying on my bed with the sun streaming through the window. Relaxing, breathing, enjoying freedom. Journalling. On Quit Train. Reading the latest Hollywood gossip. Did you know JLo and Ben Affleck are reuniting. Happy days! Also doing a pedicure and a manicure. And people still dispute that women can't multitask. Poppycock!

  12. Dianne, nicotine is insidious. It finds ways to attack when you least expect it. 30+ days and you start to feel a little bit comfortable and it will seize that opportunity. Stay alert and on guard. The good thing is that every time you win, you become a bit stronger and it becomes a bit weaker. I used to visualize hitting the craving with a hammer sometimes even shouting 'Die Craving Die".

  13. I believe we all have angels watching over us. In my case, I like to think that it is my great great Aunt Ellen, or Aunty, as we knew her. Aunty came here from Ireland as a teenager, and the desire of her heart was to be a nun. But God had other plans for her. Her sister and brother- in- law, who had 5 children, died within months of each other. So, she gave up her dream of serving God, and took on the responsibility of raising their children. When my grandmother (one of those children) grew up, and gave birth to my Dad, long after his father abandoned her, Aunty helped raise him, too. My Dad credited her with teaching him to be a good man. My Dad gave me her name, as my middle name, so I am Kathleen Ellen. Aunty lived to be near 90. I remember visiting with her, as a girl. She gave me my first set of Rosary beads. So, I have always thought that it is Aunty, who is my Guardian Angel, who watches over me, from Above.

  14. Just breathe Linda! I am sorry that you are having such a bad time. And it’s those horrible cigarettes that have you being unable to cope right now anyway. Don’t give in to their call. You are strong! You will get through everything that is going on.

  19. I decided to treat myself to a Sonic Oreo Blast today because I am so awesome and it was so hot today, so I queue up with what seems like everyone else in my town into the drive-thru line. After a few minutes I notice the driver side window of the vehicle ahead of me open a little and this youthful, dainty, nicely tanned, French manicured, ring laden hand slides through the opening with the gold spangled bracelet laden wrist resting atop the glass. The movements of said appendage truly were delicate and elegant, but purpose driven as it periodically appeared and retreated back into the cool confines of it’s hosts mode of transportation because like I said it was so hot today! My mind had initially conceded how pleasant and serene it all looked until I noticed how disruptive the streams of hazy blue smoke from a cigarette and the smokers disgusting mouth clouded the view and the reeking odor from said cigarette filled my nostrils. The window had to be cracked to keep the smoke from irritating the children in the backseat and to keep most of the air conditioning inside the vehicle because as I’ve said it was so hot today! I wanted to yell out my window, “Quit! Quit now! It gets so much harder the longer you wait. Your children deserve all of the time and attention you can possibly give them. Please quit before the whole of your life is mandated by the next cigarette you can have!” Of course the moment passed and I had the recollection of when this was me and how now; looking back, I can see that if I had quit then how very different my life would be. I expressed my regret of lost time, lost friends and loves, and lost experiences. I inhaled deeply and exhaled slowly. I said a prayer of thankfulness that I survived to enjoy at least one day quit! I am happy. I am content. I am joyful. The Blast was so very delicious, but fleeting because like I said it was so very hot today!

  25. Same. Hard headed as they come. Thanks for the comment on writing. It’s just the way I saw it. I spend more time ‘seeing’ now that I don’t smoke.

  26. Over here it's illegal to smoke in a car with children under the age of 12. Second hand smoke is a very serious health problem for young developing bodies and lungs. Not only that children of smokers are more likely to become smokers depending on the level of second hand smoke they were exposed to. Some children of smokers see it as something acceptable. Very sad.

  27. I like Starbucks blonde roast or their Pike blend. I am not yet a connoisseur. I just like good strong coffee. My son gets his beans At Costco.

  28. @Gus, you have some skills with the pen. That was a very well written story. I used to want to shout out to every smoker standing outside the doors of malls or office buildings that they could quit, they did not 'have to' smoke. Of course, when I was a smoker I never listened to anyone ...

  30. @Katgirl Fresh ground beans are the way to make coffee. Please do read up on the differences between coarse and fine grain for different types of coffee makers. What's your current favorite coffee.

  32. I bet that coffee tasted great. Not only does it taste better because you quit smoking, but fresh ground beans makes the best coffee. It is going to take a while to change those old patterns of thinking. Smoking dominated a big part of our lives. Keep changing it up and making life more interesting. The biggest reward will be freedom from the addiction!

About us

QuitTrain®, a quit smoking support community, was created by former smokers who have a deep desire to help people quit smoking and to help keep those quits intact.  This place should be a safe haven to escape the daily grind and focus on protecting our quits.  We don't believe that there is a "one size fits all" approach when it comes to quitting smoking.  Each of us has our own unique set of circumstances which contributes to how we go about quitting and more importantly, how we keep our quits.
