  3. You are taking the steps and that in itself is HUGE. When you are ready you could look at things like yoga, box breathing, and meditation to ease the anxiety. Even just a walk around the block will release natural endorphins and soothe your mind. This is a time to be kind to yourself. Big bubble baths, hot rock massages or something as simple as giving yourself a Mani or a Pedi. Giving yourself the gift of health is the best thing you can do for yourself. Health really is wealth. When you feel good about yourself, all these things will snowball in your favour. I'm not a doctor but ideally work IMHO work towards weaning the patches. Once the nicotine is out of your system (3 days) the true detox starts. I personally find journalling and doing my gratitude journal makes some days SO much more bearable. Every couple of days do a personal "check in" on yourself. See the diagram below. Keep strong. Big hugs.

  12. Day 14 I feeling pretty good. It felt really good to go out to eat with family and not be "the smoker" who had to go out after the meal and light one up or light one before going in....or the second I got home....it felt really good to be a non-smoker today! I am glad I quit. I not going to make it sound like it has been easy. It has not and I know....I going to have to keep putting the work in. I know there will be bad days but today I am glad I am 2 weeks out from quitting and that I did it. Today it felt good to be a non-smoker!

  19. We may not be where we would like to be at this time in our life's But we should be thankful for the blessings we have received It could be so much worse It is easy to get wrapped up in our daily little bubble we forget that there are far less fortunate bubbles out there.

  24. Distract, Refocus, Regroup. So much of a bad habit is just that a habit. Associations, triggers and emotions. Quite often fight or flight will come into play. To build healthy (and different) neural pathways we need to form different (and healthy habits) We HAVE to go about life differently as a non smoker. Manage the chimp and the rest will fall into place. Great post @sharonsiff God bless.

  28. I have no doubt you'll be just fine with the lowered dose. It's the mental aspects of smoking that take the real time and effort to get comfortable with and you seem to be doing a great job of that so far. Unravelling all those habitual smokes we attached to things we did day in and day out. That's the thing that takes time & patience to overcome. You're on your way now Gus. You'll do just fine! Your participation in a forum like this helps not only others but by helping others you reinforce your own quit efforts. It really is a win-win!

About us

QuitTrain®, a quit smoking support community, was created by former smokers who have a deep desire to help people quit smoking and to help keep those quits intact.  This place should be a safe haven to escape the daily grind and focus on protecting our quits.  We don't believe that there is a "one size fits all" approach when it comes to quitting smoking.  Each of us has our own unique set of circumstances which contributes to how we go about quitting and more importantly, how we keep our quits.
