Thanks, everyone! It has been quite an epic journey for me to get here! To any newbies....I empathize with you for what you are going thru the first few days, weeks and months once you quit. It is not easy!!!!! I was a 40+ year smoker and it was my third attempt (over a 25 yr or so span) that became my sticky quit and I don't think I could have done it without the online support of other quitters. I started out at QSMB (which closed down after awhile) and luckily found QuitTrain! My motto: ODAAT (one day at a time!) Ok, gotta go the moving truck has finally arrived down here in North Carolina....time to really unpack!6 points

Funny how age helps you see clearer, even if your eyes are losing their sight. Once I was invincible, no challenge left unchallenged, life was a pleasure. I ran with my eyes closed for the thrill and now I find that I am not invincible that my past has reeked havoc on my present. I sit around a ponder things as elderly people do, refusing to admit I am getting up there. I still climb mountains, I walk don't run, I have learned to savor the moments that use to race by hardly noticed. I appreciate my body for all the years it has held up to the abuse and neglect I have put it thru, its time now for me to return the favor and care for it. Yes changing my direction and leaving behind the indulgences is not the simple path, it is a path with hills and valleys, obstacles, both big and small, challenges that require persistence, strength and determination. I have a lot of life ahead of me, grand children and great grand children that are going to need the love of their Opah and I plan on being there to give it. My eyes may be failing But I have 20/20 vision.4 points

It's human nature to deny, deny, deny. We're special somehow and it won't happen to us, only other people. Well, clearly that's not the case yet that invincible thought process seems to stay with us. It is crazy! Sorry to hear your friend is in the situation he's in but I'm sure he's pleased you got the message and are doing something to try and limit you own ongoing exposure.3 points

I can tell you that with my own quit, the last really big (quit threatening) day I had was at about my 6 week quit point. After that time, things just seemed to be much more manageable to me. Having said that Linda, we are all different and milestones we reach in our quits happen at different times. I just wanted to relate my story to you in hopes it would bring a ray of sunshine into your life. The early days and yes, even weeks, of quitting are tough. You need a few rays of light along the way. As Mee said, things do get easier along the way. The thing that always bothers me is that I could not notice that happening at the time. I could only see it looking back at my own quit. Stay the course Linda and you too will get there. Battles becoming fewer and less intense along the way2 points
