  5. Vent away Linda. We all have been there. Once you get the nicotine out of your system, quitting is a matter of changing your thinking. You need to find a way to redirect those thoughts. When I would get the urge to smoke, I would close my eyes, take a deep breath and imagine my body healing. Find something, anything to distract you. I am in Ohio, which is pretty close to you. It is very cold here and we are suppose to be getting a lot of snow. We are on the horizon of things getting better. Hang in there. Always post when it is tough. You have many friends here.

  6. How can you miss something that you know is bad for you. I know the answer the addiction.woke up this morning and thought damm I want my cup of coffee and a cigarette. The Covid mess does not make it easier, can't really get out and do much. Today when I got up is was 3 degrees out. So certainly not wanting to do outside activities. So this being stuck in the house is getting old!!! So it has to get better one way or the other. Thanks for letting me vent

  7. Venting is perfectly fine and is a good thing. It does help. As you know, smoking will not help....anything. It will not fix the crappy situation with covid, restrictions, social distancing, etc. You can't control this covid mess but you can control your quit. You are right, the answer to how you can miss something that is so bad for you is the addiction. But, it will not always be this way. Things do get better with time, even if it doesn't feel that way right now. Vent away. Do whatever you need to do as long as you don't smoke.

  11. I know it is hard to amuse your self when you are stuck inside, Get a fan and make noises into it, sign a song drive your pets nuts. Turn up the Radio or put your Best Jam in run around in you underware singing at the top of your lungs. spend some time remembering how to have fun and intertain your self. If you have a cat I know one that will have you laughing so hard you could wet your self. (Cat people may not approve) But promise it does not hurt the Kitty Here you go start with this

  13. I couldn't have said it any better than @johnny5 Linda, it's the addiction trying to suck you back in. It was days like that that I used my air cigarette (JAC). If that doesn't work, suck on a candy. Can't eat candy and smoke at the same time. Ans sometimes I just said the heck with it and went back to bed hoping tomorrow would be better and it usually was

  26. Yes, @JH63 Jeff, its just for that day which makes it much less daunting. And as the days added up it became easier and easier to NOPE. We even had fun with it and tried to be the first to NOPE each day

  27. I waited until noon today (PST) to post anything, but five or so minutes ago it has been exactly two weeks without smoking. So, still chugging along. Thanks for all the support and tips.

  28. Good to hear that your hubby doesn't stay down long (that doesn't sound right when I read it back to myself). The people who get up and start walking right away are usually the ones with the best outcomes. Hope you guys are walking the dogs really soon Mee.

  29. My husband is the six million dollar man. He has also had 3 rotator cuff and achilles tendon surgery. He did a physical job all his life I think we probably helped put this doctor's kids through college. I am so excited about being able to walk the dogs together again.

  30. His surgery was done in the outpatient surgical unit and though he is in the hospital, it is an outpatient area. Dr likes to keep them at least 23 hrs. (which is still considered outpatient) to treat them with high doses of antibiotics. My husband stayed an extra day, because they were having a hard time managing the pain because he can only take certain meds. I am glad he stayed because the care the first couple of days is 24/7. I am on the way to bring him home now.

  32. Doglover, I quit smoking exactly because it was a pain in the ass. Figuring out where I could smoke just got to be too much trouble. Can't smoke anywhere! I never smoked in my house, and then I got a new car and did not want to smoke in it. And of course no smoking on work campus or at restaurants. 25 feet from door of stores or public buildings. I wish I had a more noble inspiration like my health, but that is my truth. Luckily, even though my motives were not noble, the rewards have been the same! Just keep on keeping on!

About us

QuitTrain®, a quit smoking support community, was created by former smokers who have a deep desire to help people quit smoking and to help keep those quits intact.  This place should be a safe haven to escape the daily grind and focus on protecting our quits.  We don't believe that there is a "one size fits all" approach when it comes to quitting smoking.  Each of us has our own unique set of circumstances which contributes to how we go about quitting and more importantly, how we keep our quits.
