Thanks!! Things are as good as expected. My fault I haven’t been on as much. Funny, I don’t feel like a quitter. I feel like a non-smoker.4 points

I figured I'd add what's worked for me so far, on day 5 nicotine free. I repeatedly tell myself I'm a non smoker, over and over throughout the day, remind myself how each inhale of smoke really feels because it is not pleasant. Lots of water and diet root beer (before today was diet Pepsi, trying to reduce caffeine). String cheese!!! Coloring pages, adult level, to keep my hands busy. Cinnamon toothpicks!! They are my favorite in the car, roll down the windows and chew. Daily commitment to NOPE. The people on this train are amazing!! Thank you all!!4 points

I am hanging in there! I don't feel very good at times. I slept a lot today! I'm happy to talk to someone else who is also this early in their quit. Sorry to hear about the headaches! Part of my quit plan is to cut my caffeine intake in half. I learned that from one of Joel's videos. He explains that caffeine reacts differently in our bodies during the early part of our quit. I don't know if you drink caffeine regularly, but if you do you might want to reduce that drink and replace it with something that has no caffeine. He explains that we can return to normal levels after we have been quit for awhile. I'm saying this because early in one of my past quits I had headaches at times and noticed I was drinking more caffeine than usual. It did stop the headaches and also reduced my level of nervousness. Just a thought! Take Care of that Great Quit you've got going! Jeff4 points

Thank you all, hard to believe it has been 3 years. The anniversary actually slipped my mind till I saw the notification of message today. In some ways I think that is a good thing since it shows that smoking is far down the list of my needs (I keep it on the list because I always have to be on the defense so that smoking does not creep back into my life). But I will tell you one thing it sure feels good that I have control of this -- again thanks and all keep strong!!!4 points

Optimism and motivation are good, but they are too fickle to be counted on. This is why making a commitment is so important. Even when you feel unmotivated and pessimistic, you keep trudging forward. Not because you feel like it, but because you're on a mission. Some days you grab the quit by the balls and swing it around. Other days, you just punch the clock and do the work.3 points

If you have any concerns always seek your Dr advice ....if anything it will ease your mind .... I didn't cough up anything either when I quit ....everyone is different ...3 points

Yes, the headache could be caused by the coughing for sure. I think going to the dr is always a good idea after quitting if for nothing else then to get all the kudos for quitting I didn't have a cough when I quit. I coughed plenty when I smoked but I did have a lot of throat clearing. As long as what's coming up isn't yellow, green or brown it's more than likely just your lungs doing their job of ridding all that gunk. But again, never hurts to get checked out. You guys are all doing great and almost done with hell week, yay3 points

Interesting. I have always only had 1 cup of coffee a day, very rarely 2, but I have drank quite a lot of diet Pepsi. I'll try cutting that down Today, day 5, is a teeny tiny bit better than yesterday. I still am wheezing and coughing a lot. Thinking that may be part of the headache problem too. Funniest thing I'm just realizing is that my "addict brain" keeps trying to convince me if I smoke I'll stop coughing. Ha!! Nothing could be further from the truth. Might go to a walk in medical clinic tomorrow to see if some antibiotics might help. Stay with us Jeff!!3 points

That's a good call @JH63, I was a two cup a day coffee drinker and after I quit I can't hardly drink a whole cup most days.....3 points

Hi Teammates! I want to share my newest milestone. During the Christmas holiday season, I stressed a lot, thought I was going to smoke. I reached out to my support groups until I connected with someone positive. I didn't worry if I was getting on someone's nerves; all I cared about was not smoking. I had to do what I had to do, and I’ll do it again.2 points

It's clear so nothing too bad I'm sure. I've had coughing issues for years, COPD, but now it's definitely a little worse, cough not as productive either. I'll keep you posted after I go.2 points

hello all! since I quit over eight years ago, a lot has happened in my life. I’ve gotten divorced, I’ve endured my son‘s not talking to me for a few years which now we have re-connected, I bought a new house, I dealt with some health issues which are now resolved hopefully for good. I’ve had some issues dealing with relationships and ups and downs in life, financial struggles....and then Covid hit and since then my life has really been turned upside down and tested my strength as many of us have. But in all of this ....not one puff ever!! no matter what that is all. miss you guys !! stay vigilant!! Babs xoxoxo1 point

Welcome aboard prichy, man that's a long quit you gave up but given the current circumstances we're in I can understand. Our addiction will look for any way in! I think you must have forgotten that one is never enough for a nicotine addict as you're seeing now. I credit a lot of my success on being surrounded with fellow quitters who knew what I was going through at any time in my quit. I stayed glued to the forum and made such good bonds with people that letting them down by relapsing was the last thing I wanted to do. My suggestion to you is stick close, go back to basics and NOPE each day. Its a promise to yourself that just for today you will not smoke. So now that you're here I hope you start your quit right away. We're here for you pretty much 24/7 so reach out if you need to.1 point
