  1. We all had a list of excuses a mile long why we shouldn't quit. "The damage is done." "I'll gain weight." "Quitting will ruin my social life." By allowing ourselves to accept these excuses as dogma, we often delayed quitting smoking for years or decades. Choose an excuse that you once held and then expose the reality that shatters that excuse. Mine: Excuse: I'll get too stressed if I quit. Truth: The most stressful thing in my life as a smoker was making sure I got my "fix" every 20-30 minutes. I would rearrange my life to make sure I could feed my addiction according to this timetable. It stressed me out if I had to participate in an event where I couldn't smoke for an hour or two. So, it turned out that not smoking was actually less stressful than smoking. What's your Excuse and Truth?

  9. Helping the kids haul the boat out of the water for the season. it was so nice out, we couldn't resist going for one last rip on Lake Ontario, just off of Niagara On The Lake! Can't believe my daughter was doing the driving! @Boo take heed; I can remember changing her diapers and reading her bedtime stories and even playing doll-house with her. It happens fast so, relish the moments! Glad I still have a few more to come!

  11. All of the above posts except jillar`s. My parents did not smoke but I was around plenty of people that did as i grew older and no one really seemed to mind it much. I can recall Mom telling people to go to the living room to smoke. Living room? What a name to call a place to smoke. Some things have changed for the better.

  12. I hear ya man. I was talking to a friend of mine a couple of weeks ago. He told me his daughter is starting her senior year at UTK. That blew my mind. I still remember very clearly stopping by the hospital for a visit the day after she was born. The time really does fly by. Speaking of daughters...It's official: Maddie is spoiled rotten. She likes to have her hair brushed. If I stop brushing her hair before she falls asleep, she lets out a little whimper and stares at me. As soon as I start brushing again, she calms right down. I also have a new title, one of Sugar Britches' friends calls me: Maddie's Daddy. It is becoming clear who's in charge now.

  16. Probably because youtube and google are grumpy with the Aussie government because they want to make a law which means they have to pay for certain content... a few things have vanished lately.

  23. If it seems like we treat quitting smoking like a matter of life and death around here, it's because it is a matter of life and death.

  26. I had a few quit attempts before I quit for good. Those relapses from those attempts often started with thoughts of going to a particular convenience store to buy smokes and light up. I did cave in on several occasions prior to quitting for good and I HATED what I did by buying cigarettes and lighting up. Going out to get one of those relapse cigarettes may have seemed to me like it wouldn't have mattered or not but believe me, I HATED it when I lit up that cigarette and smoked. And, I was hooked again to keep smoking until I dared trying to quit again. Keep the quit. It may seem tempting but lighting up a cigarette again will only make things a whole lot worse.

About us

QuitTrain®, a quit smoking support community, was created by former smokers who have a deep desire to help people quit smoking and to help keep those quits intact.  This place should be a safe haven to escape the daily grind and focus on protecting our quits.  We don't believe that there is a "one size fits all" approach when it comes to quitting smoking.  Each of us has our own unique set of circumstances which contributes to how we go about quitting and more importantly, how we keep our quits.
