  5. Welcome aboard Chris. How to start a quit...you ash out that last cigarette and commit to never smoking another one. The process of quitting is challenging, but the process could not be more simple. You don't have to do anything. You simply refrain from smoking. This simple process will not only set you free from nicotine addiction, but will have a positive impact on many aspects of your life. You have made a great decision for yourself. Buckle up, knuckle down, and drive on.

  14. Hello all. I'm looking for advice on how to take the first step to stop, even though I still love to smoke. This is hard for me, but I know it's needed. All input is so very much appreciated.

  17. I am packing for my drive down to Ocean City, Maryland tomorrow! Staying at a place right on the beach for a few days and have no plans other than to explore the boardwalk there and visit Assateague Island (known for its wild ponies). This has been in the back of my mind since I read the book "Misty of Chincoteague" by Marguerite Henry when I was about 8 yrs old...someday I will go to that place! That day has arrived! If you were wondering....yes, I am meeting up with my BF and we will stay at a nice hotel right on the beach! It's a 5 hour drive for me, a 10 hour drive for him!! Hmmm...are things ratcheting up between us? Stay tuned......

  19. Amyen123, Jillar is right. We all have moments like this but they don`t last forever and every time you beat it back you will be stronger and your resolve to quit will be also. Stay strong and stay close to the board. S.O.S if need be. Don`t let this beat you. You can do this. Best wishes.

  24. Thought I'd join in with this with my newly-discovered joy of cooking healthy meals. This takes 20 mins, fish (cod or tilapia) is roasted in an oven along with the grape tomatoes, both with fresh parsley, garlic and a little oil or lemon butter. Mushrooms sautéed in a pan with onions and garlic and broccoli steamed.

  25. The breathing exercise mentioned by Nancy worked and continue to work for myself. Helps to slow down sometimes and just feel the power of breathing. All sorts of things you can explore. Keep positive and one day at a time. Best wishes.

  26. Walking IS a great idea. I will try that. Congrats on being 7 weeks smoke free! I cannot wait until I can say that!

  27. I walked a lot! And took a lot of showers (you can't smoke in the shower) An important thing I learned is that you still need to take breaks....just walk instead of smoke! And if you feel a panic attack coming on: Breathe in slowly through your nose for a count of four. Hold your breath for a count of four. Exhale slowly through your mouth for a count of four. Hold for a count of four. Repeat 3-5 times, visualizing each number as you count.

  28. Welcome to the site, Amyen. You care doing a great thing with quitting smoking. I made it a point to try to focus on positive changes I was noticing as my quit progressed instead of dwelling over what I felt I was missing by not smoking. With time, you will see that you are really not missing anything good by quitting smoking. Everything that comes with smoking is bad, whether it be diseases (which there are many), the financial cost, missing out on things by always ducking out for a smoke break, that horrible smell, etc. etc. etc. Everything that comes with quitting is positive. You will notice many great changes the longer you go smoke free. It may be rough early on but it is worth the freedom you gain by quitting for good.

About us

QuitTrain®, a quit smoking support community, was created by former smokers who have a deep desire to help people quit smoking and to help keep those quits intact.  This place should be a safe haven to escape the daily grind and focus on protecting our quits.  We don't believe that there is a "one size fits all" approach when it comes to quitting smoking.  Each of us has our own unique set of circumstances which contributes to how we go about quitting and more importantly, how we keep our quits.
