Thank you for the kind reception. I know enough that I have to make this my priority at the moment. I have recently retired so the pressures of work are removed at least. I trust and believe in what you say that it gets better so I'm just trying to keep things in the day and adopt some patience I also know that one cigarette would send me right back into the addiction and I'm determined for that not to happen, for today at least7 points

Welcome Mick. This is a great place for encouragement and support in quitting smoking. You definitely want to be around for every precious moment with your granddaughter. She will be blessed with all the memories you will make for her. One month smoke free is huge. The first month is the toughest. Keep moving forward and never look back. You can do this!7 points

Hi..names Mick and I stopped smoking on 19 July with the help of a stop smoking counsellor and champix. I'm 66 and just been blessed with a granddaughter, hence the reason I want to stop, amongst many others! I'm not gonna say it's been easy but its helped me to find out about my enemy, nicotine, and how to deal with it and the lies and tricks it plays on me. I've joined this forum cos I think the support you give will also help me. Anyway, thanks for having me here and I look forward to meeting you all.6 points

Great attitude to have @Midmale. All you said is true - 1 day at a time. Focus on what is happening now and don't worry about later. You can deal with things as they come up and yes, patience is required. It's a marathon not a sprint but it IS doable with the right attitude and focus. You also have the only rule about quitting and staying quit nailed down ..... NOPE! Not One Puff Ever There's even a daily NOPE pledge page here where you can pledge NOPE to start your day if you like6 points

I like "The Freedom Force" but I didn't cast a vote. I figured the 2020 quitters should choose their own name. I was going to campaign for 2016 to be remembered as "The Year of Boo" but that seemed a bit grandiose even for me.3 points

I quit this time using NRT....for me it worked. If I had a time machine and could go back and do it again id still use NRT. I think I had a very public rant thread about this topic and defending my use of NRT..but the thing is I would never have succeeded without the nrt or the support and friendship of the eclectic loons on this train...I had stuff to deal with beyond the physical addiction, I knew that about myself and as far as I am concerned NRT was a significant factor in my quit. I did go through a disillusioned stage where I felt my quit was somehow less than a cold turkey quit so I get what you are saying, but on the other side of the successful quit fence ... i don't give a fat rat's clacker how anyone quits as long as they do and they fight the nicodemon however their demon manifests and they keep their quit and find success....i want that for every quitter, success. When push comes to shove I dont give a shit if you race to the successful quit line in a suped up Bugatti Veyron or if you limp towards it in a clapped out combi just so long as ya take the journey and get there.2 points

I know this is isn't really the place but confession: I'm not really a big Acca Dacca fan (yes, Straya where we like to shorten everything extends ACDC to Acca Dacca)...doesn't really have as much to do with the music as it does with the exes. But love this one, filmed in my home town... Yes.true fact we did name a street after them.2 points

I was romancing the cigarette just the other day. Tossed my headset across the room and stomped outside from a virtual meeting with a bunch of baboons colleagues. A bright sunny day with a light breeze and leaves falling from black locust trees and I thought, "Wouldn't it be great to...put a hole in my head with a Makita drill?" I keep my mind on a leash.2 points
