  9. Hello, I am quitting smoking tomorrow. I had found you, fabulous people, and this litany of resources five years ago, then threw away my quit (months). Emotional blow with knee jerk response of I'd rather hurt me and remain appearing somewhat in control (ha ha ha, as she cries) than completely blow up in immature (again the laughter and perspective) manners. Through away another one (9 hours) this morning. Logged on here and have renewed hope (wish I could also say faith) in my resolve and ability/willingness. Have very limited data, so being mindful of which Joel videos to choose. I know the key is to not put any nicotine into my body. Rollercoastering on the ideas of can't or won't, willing and able or unwilling and able. Have smoked for 38 years, with around 3 years off for intelligent thinking/choices/behavior in the mix. Not yet savvy on site protocol and where to post and do things. guidance appreciated. Big thank you for the how to use this site to quit thread. Best regards, darcy

  17. Thank you all for the kind words and well wishes. I celebrated my smoke-free anniversary by waking up early and going out for a run. Some of you may be thinking: Boo doesn't know how to celebrate things. Perhaps the early morning run was more of an observance than a celebration. Observing the fact that I'm a very different person now than I was four years ago. Back then, there was no way I was going to drag myself out of bed at 4:30 a.m. to go run in the woods. I had neither the will nor the energy for that kind of thing four years ago. It felt like a chore to do the few basics in the morning, between stepping out to smoke a cigarette every ten minutes, and not leave the house late. Now I wake up feeling well rested and energetic; that was never the case when I was a smoker. In fact, observing and being grateful for the process of quitting has been a recurring theme of my fourth year smoke-free. The first year was a baptism by fire. There were highs and lows. Excitement and insecurity...it was quite a ride. The second year was when things started to steady a bit, I was enjoying getting my sea legs under me. The third year I was pretty much on cruise control. This last year has been the most eventful year of my life. Back in 2016, I hit a fork in the road and had to make some big choices. I could have chosen to settle for less and condemn myself to a life of mediocrity. Fortunately, the prospect of bigger and better things lured me to go in a different direction. Quitting smoking was one of the first commitments I made in an effort to reach out and grab the potential that was there. Committing to the process of quitting set off a chain reaction the likes of which I never expected. The positive momentum picked up from that one decision was a game changer for me. I will be forever grateful for the process. The Quit Train was a major factor in that process and I am forever grateful for all of you fine folks who took the ride with me. I gained knowledge. I was offered support from day one. I had full confidence that I could always get what I needed here, be it a pat on the back or a whack over the head from Doreen's frying pan I knew this Train was right on track. The fear and trepidation of quitting quickly subsided as this place provided a lot of laughs and the opportunity to get to know some of the finest folks I have ever encountered. Give yourself a round of applause Quit Train, you deserve it.

  18. G'day Darcy and welcome back. Biggest bit of advice...don't think long term, just worry about today...when you wake up in the morning promise yourself "today I'm not smoking" and then fight to keep that promise, just quit for the day...then tomorrow repeat..after you have done that first 24hrs you know you can...draw strength from that...because you are only quitting for the day and you know you can do that because you have.

  20. Finishing up on the basement reno....with the help of my new guy! It is looking awesome! Actually looks like a larger space...the sheetrock is up....walls and ceiling. The entrance way walls are tricky....lots of angles and cutouts and previous stud work done ass-backwards ....so working on that today. Hope to start taping/spackling tomorrow! Now I just have to get rid of all the junk/clutter that used to be in the basement....cuz nothing is going back in there!!!!

  34. Thanks everyone for the words of encouragement. As we are getting some warmer weather and the clocks just sprang forward, it is becoming more tempting to have a beer when grilling, since there are still some in the garage fridge; however, I have made the promise to not drink through lent and my wife and kids have made the promise to continue to not have sweets/desserts through lent as well. Clothes are fitting better, sleep is better, anxiety doesn't hit as hard, and my mental clarity is sharper. I was oddly tempted to smoke this morning on my way to work- can't put my finger on the trigger, but it was the strongest craving I've had in a while. Urge Resisted- Quit Maintained!!!

  36. JW drinking is obviously a big trigger for you as it was for me, the quit must be protected above all else, if that means not going out drinking, locking yourself inside with donuts then so be it, you know your own weakness and its not forever. Treat yourself to other rewards and when you do start drinking again do it slowly, take water breaks etc, its like learning to ride a bike all over again, you have to have the training wheels on and know where the brakes are, take things slowly and you will be able to go back to your social norm just without smoking and slowly killing yourself.

  37. that's awesome @Boo i`m more boo boo too but like the sound of yogi I hear you on the getting older part, I thought I would creak, crack and fluff my way through but was surprised, the Cobra is the hardest for me as my back seems to be the least flexible. I checked out some books from the library and have some apps on my phone which I found very helpful so I practice at home now, hopefully in the spring I will join a legit Yoga club as I have only attended classes at the gym. I don't think I will be doing this pose.... Namaste

About us

QuitTrain®, a quit smoking support community, was created by former smokers who have a deep desire to help people quit smoking and to help keep those quits intact.  This place should be a safe haven to escape the daily grind and focus on protecting our quits.  We don't believe that there is a "one size fits all" approach when it comes to quitting smoking.  Each of us has our own unique set of circumstances which contributes to how we go about quitting and more importantly, how we keep our quits.
