G’day NOPE .....Not One Puff Ever.... replace Ever with Min Hour Day as required!7 points
-
Runfree/Daisy. Bakon calls me Bigfoot 5 Years, 1 Month, 9 Days Running days are behind me but I discovered a nearby ice rink/sports center with an indoor rubberized track. If I time it right, I can walk and I get to watch the 50-60 year old men's league practicing . I might make a quick trip to NYC or the Oregon Coast w/my sister. She's having open heart surgery at the Mayo soon and we're both a bit freaked about it. I really miss Alaska, no surprise, but am still glad I moved. Selfie from 2012.7 points

Howdy! Quit cold turkey 9/26/2016. It has been one helluva ride. Made it through turbulent waters and now I'm coasting in laminar flow. Early on, I relied on (too heavily probably-)the words/poetry of Mike Piano and Bassman Two gents from another site. Newbies should find soft landing here Stay awhile and nurture your quit. Some quitters prefer a more hard-ass approach. Not me. It was not as easy as Allen Carr promised. Some days, the craves crashed over me. I nearly drowned. But I did not. Every so often I feel a twinge. An ache. A temptation. Nostalgia's whisper is a scream. I vowed NOPE from day 1 of my forever quit. I've kept that promise. As for the picture -- for those that know me, know that I haven't figured out how to post those clever mimes, gifs, crap whatever y'all call it... Yep to NOPE! L4L6 points

Hey all. I'm new, found this forum in a Google search. I'm about to smoke my last cigarette. I'm 24, from the Netherlands, smoke 30 a day for 11 years. I'm afraid quitting will be hard, as I live with 4 smokers. I hope I can do this, I can feel the bad effects on my body.3 points

Welcome to the board, SamDy, and congratulations on your decision to quit! You absolutely CAN do this, so take the "if" out of it. You just need to make the decision that there are no circumstances in which it is okay to smoke. Deciding for your whole life is hard, so just decide one day at a time, NOPE, Not One Puff Ever. We have a thread where you can pledge each day, promising you will not smoke, just for that day. A hard thing for me was to realize that there is no such thing as just having one (or even a puff) when things are stressful, or you are partying, or someone offers you one. We all started where you are now and if we can do it, you can, too!3 points

Rozuki In 25 days, I will celebrate 3 yrs quit!! I have had a few health issues in those 3 years, but survived a stroke in 2017 and CABG x 3 open heart surgery in 2018. No complaints and my doctors are happy with how I am doing. Gained quite a few lbs\kg (due to the heart surgery, not the fact that I quit smoking!!) but have managed to lose a few of 'em...will be doubling down on the exercise as I need to fit into a bathing suit the week of May 1st!!! I retired January 2019 and in process of getting my house ready to sell this summer...fingers crossed it goes quickly and smoothly. Here is a cute pic of one of my dogs, his name is Panda....he is a Morkie (Maltese/Yorkie) and is a sweetie-pie of a little tuff guy!3 points

G’day Got blocked carotid arteries. Caused a series of “TIAs” so called mini strokes. None of the usual boxes are ticked except (ex) smoker and over 60 (just). Shit! I’m an ex smoker and this still happens! They unblock one side surgically. Next Stoke lands me in the major stroke ward. Pretty scared I spend my time trying to remember who’s the current prime minister and what date is it. Theres not much sleep to be had and apparently I was there for 2 days but it seemed like overnight. I walk out but 2 got out with blankets over their heads. I survived but others didn’t. I was a 3 year non smoker. That was my mantra. I kept telling them I gave up 10th oct 2015. Who gives a shit what date it was that day. I survived cause I’d given the smokes away. Gave me the edge. Had to earn the right (sensibly) to drive again. Was able to keep working part time. Just. That was a year ago. Still can’t remember much from that time but I’m still here. And happy to be that non smoker! Yep happy to give myself that title. Not One Puff Ever Chris2 points

Took a personal day and made it a 3 day weekend. Went to Palm Springs and hiked the Indian Canyons. 74F degrees (23C) and sunny in January . Averaged nearly 15 miles per day with some decent elevation. 4 years ago I would have been winded walking from my couch to the refrigerator. Now I'm able to clear boulders from the trail - ha ha. Quitting smoking, eating healthy, and exercising is truly life changing.2 points

I have no selfies. I am swimming and walking 2 mi 3/4 days a week. Losing the 30lbs @bakon added to my last photo. Getting strong, feeling well. Painting. Sewing. Writing. Fighting Rats in my courtyard. Listening to a lot of great tunes and making various playlists on a streaming site. Cooking really well and looking forward to visit from Daughter/Spouse/Father-In-Law and also Jazz Fest guests for whom I will make my Legendary Gumbo and have the sit down feast for 12. V. inspired by all my darling smoke free creatures here. Wishing I could help my two smoking friends in real life, they struggle so. Cold Turkey on A Whim Quit Six Years and Three Months The Best Decision I Ever Made Oh ! Quit Caffeine over a year ago and kind of accidentally, starting my third month alcohol free, thinking of staying sober for a year as a challenge and see how I like it. Quitting smoking has made it easier to honestly examine my life and be willing and able to change patterns that no longer serve me.2 points

Linda 537 days quit I have entered the next phase of my life. I turned 65 yrs old yesterday.. My husband retired on December 31st. I do find he is a little hooked to my hip but it is wonderful to pick up and do what we want. I hope we can navigate this new period of our lives with little bumps. Hopefully quitting smoking gives us more time together and we stay healthy. I did gain quite a few quit smoking pounds but started the new year dieting. My husband and I have both lost 8 pounds each.2 points

Thank you for sharing - it the reality for all of us former smokers - we are at a higher risk for so many health issues - I remind myself that whatever comes my way health wise I will be able to conquer it more successfully as a non-smoker than as a smoker and that is enough some days to keep the quit.2 points
-
Thank you Chris for your honest post ...keep recovering .... I sometimes ask myself ...have I dodged the bullet...after smoking myself over 5 decades... Who knows !!!!! What I do know the 6 years I have been smoke free have been the best years I can remember .....2 points

We are so lucky to have you on the planet and have you helping us here on QTrain, Chris. Hope you are mending well and savoring each and every day. The sooner people quit smoking the less risk they will have of stroke, heart disease, and a plethora of other, sometimes fatal, health issues. Life is too precious to smoke it all away. S You know, I may still die of a smoking related illness but, the quality of my life has vastly improved with being smoke/nicotine free The quality of my death is something I think about and I will not be tortured by feeding the addiction or be in withdrawals. I will die a free person.2 points

Glad to hear you are recovering. This is a good lesson to all of us that just because we quit smoking, we are not out of the woods with strokes and heart attacks. Plenty of never smokers die of these ailments. We still have to watch our diet and exercise and keep monitoring our health.2 points
