  7. Quitting for the hundredth time after 20 year love/hate relationship with cigarettes. I smoked a pack daily and lately I was smoking without even noticing sometimes. I was smoking with a quickness and where sometimes I would want more and more and it never seemed enough until it just was too much. If I felt I could be completely accepted as a smoker and I had unlimited funds and immortal health, I would never quit. But I don’t have those options and I had to quit. I had to keep trying. I now have 35 days of freedom! The place I like to post a little and lurk a lot is closing. I find myself looking for a new home. It has been beneficial to me in the past to stay connected on these type of forums. Helping others is so rewarding to me and I need help to keep quit for good!!!! I need support and to feel like my quit matters. I don’t even remember my last Quit that lasted this long, it has been at least four years or longer. I am feeling happy and very few craves now...but have my moments and rough days like everyone else. I hope I can learn from you all and encourage others in keeping their quits with me.

  10. My wife smokes. Saturday we went shopping and while she stood outside the truck to smoke one before leaving the store I had a whiff that was to die for. Usually it’s the opposite but I had to totally walk away while she finished. Crazy...that was the most I’ve wanted one in months.

  11. I often stand outside with my Sister while she smokes, or when she hangs out of her bedroom window having one, I will sit on her bed and chat to her. The smell irritates me, and I am not in the slightest bit envious of her smoking. Quite the opposite, I wish she would stop. It bugs me what she is doing to herself, but I don't nag or preach lol.

  13. Easy, just wack yourself on the thumb with a hammer and the time before the pain subsides will seem to last forever. There, sorted.

  14. Lucky, I am only 15 days ahead of you in my quit and I haven't felt this good about myself in a long time. I feel a sense of accomplishment and pride that I have been able to do something this substantial for myself. Just yesterday I had a strong urge to buy a pack but I remembered how much more I am able to do at the gym, how much money I have saved (the ticker on this site is a great motivator), and how much encouragement the people on this site have given me. The problem we all deal with is that in some way we are all still "smokers" and will always be; however, we are "smokers" who choose not to smoke. The desire will always be with us because it is a part of us. It is something we didn't just experiment with, we are addicts. These words sound discouraging, but to me they are the opposite. Everyday you beat the addiction, you are stronger.

  16. Mrs boosh still smokes and is disabled so can't get out unless I take her. Therefore I buy her cigs everyday but you know what? It doesn't bother me. I do feel a bit smug about that so apologies. I hate smug people. I'm very aware of the pride before a fall thing so I'm always on guard. I have my previous seven year quit (1997 - 2004) to thank for that. What an idiot! Is anyone else in a similar position? Not necessarily smug but having contact with cigs that is unavoidable.

  17. So.. was thinking of Christmas themed Covers or Original and fell into a you tube black hole....so have decided during Christmas we should shelve the usual weeklyish poll and have a Chrissy one. This week's song is White Christmas...your challenge (and it will be with some of these) is to listen to the versions of the song and vote for your favourite. Now for this vote I am excluding the best version, Bing Crosby, because it would be too easy..I have tried to find a variety of sounds in the versions...oh and @johnny5 THIS is the worst cover of any song the Gunners ever did...but I had to included it...kinda like I had to include the Billy Idol one for pure cheese value. .... So this vote isn't about what's the best....it is for those in the poll which do you prefer....might not even be because it sounds the best, might be cos ya laughed so hard ya coffee came out ya nose. Preparing this I have listened to over 30 versions of this song....many worthy, many more not...but I had to limit this to 6....if you have another version you love OR hate post it up peeps. Without further ado I give you... 1. The Drifters 2. Kate Cebrano (cos I gotta have an Aussie in the mix)... 3. Guns n Roses ... Cos if my ears had to bleed do should yours 4. Otis Redding 5. Billy Idol..pure cheese 6. Bob Marley I kid you not there were still least 10 others I wanted to post.....I'm thinking the Drifters will get it...any of the Brat Pack has a great version, then there are the girls, Ella (who has both a Bing style and a Drifters style), Doris, Vera, Reba, Dolly, Darlene, so fricken many....and the group's, Kiss doing an acapella version, Westlife, twisted sister, America, Chicago, Nkotb, chocolate factory, omg you have no fruckin idea how many...Jerry Lee Lewis....Iggy Pop (which kind of disturbed me)...Elvis.....White Christmas the gift that keeps on giving..

  18. Once upon a time in the west I was married to a lady that kept smoking after I had quit. I had no problem with it until things got bad and we divorced. Then I went back to smoking for a long time. Makes no sense to me now. I look back and wonder why I did this. It was so tough to quit. Why throw it away?

  24. Well don't ever give up TIGERMATT! Next time give us an SOS before you smoke. We will be there to talk you out of it. If worse comes to worse, we have Doreen that will smack you with her frying pan. You can do this. You just have to push past those craves.

  27. I feel through my many quits I have learned a lot and this quit especially...of course there are days I count my blessings and feel free and others where I still feel deprived or incomplete in some way. I do think the only thing I can do is repeat NOPE and ODAAT and know I am on this journey for a reason, for many. I love that I’ve been able to stay quit this long, but I do feel like an ex smoker or quitter, not a non smoker yet. Thank you for the welcomes

  29. Congratulations on your quit, @Luckyquitter and welcome to the QTrain. The most important thing you can do to build a successful quit is to learn all you can about addiction. When you do, I bet the fantasy you harbor about being able to quit with no consequences will evaporate. Who would choose slavery over freedom ? and slavery to Big Tobacco is particularly onerous. About us

QuitTrain®, a quit smoking support community, was created by former smokers who have a deep desire to help people quit smoking and to help keep those quits intact.  This place should be a safe haven to escape the daily grind and focus on protecting our quits.  We don't believe that there is a "one size fits all" approach when it comes to quitting smoking.  Each of us has our own unique set of circumstances which contributes to how we go about quitting and more importantly, how we keep our quits.
