Hi Leon, If you are really serious about quitting smoking, this is the place to do it. There is so much information and support here. As said by others, you just have to stop. I can tell you it will be uncomfortable for a couple of weeks but then it is just a matter of redirecting your brain. I smoked for 42 years and tried many attempts to quit. I finally found the strength and support on this forum. You can do this. It is the best thing you can do for your life.7 points

Hello and welcome Leon.... My first question ...are you still Vaping .???? My second ...if so....do you intend to stop Vaping ?????7 points

Hey Leon. Welcome to QuitTrain. We sound similar. I smoked for 20 years and quit at age 39. My longest quit was 44 days, prior to quitting for good. I had multiple short quit attempts like you seem to have done as well. With those similar experiences, I can assure you that quitting is very possible. What helped me in a huge way was joining an online support group and participating as much as possible. Learning about nicotine addiction really helps you understand what you are up against. Also, reach out to the people here anytime you are tempted to light up. The people here will really work with you to try to keep you from smoking. It can be tough at first but quitting smoking is actually a really great thing to do. Try to focus on all of the positives to quitting and remember that the negatives are short lived. There really is nothing positive gained from smoking. It is all negative. Quitting smoking is a really positive and great thing.7 points

Welcome aboard Leon. You keep failing at quitting because you keep smoking. This is a simple process. Couldn't be any simpler really. You quit by quitting. Don't put things in your mouth and set them on fire. To quit, you don't really have to do anything. You simply stop smoking. Education and support will facilitate the process and you can find plenty of both here on the Train. Commit to not failing again and then make it happen.6 points

It went very well. I actually did not have time for smoky thoughts the day of the event. I do, however, find myself pretty crabby still, when I am under pressure. Fortunately, my husband would rather have a crabby nonsmoker and still loves me . I do think it was a little more work having it at my son's home and I am really tired today. My son spent all his time building his dining room table, which he finished the night before. When my son is focused on something, everything else suffers. Mom spent two days, going over to his house to help him organize and clean for the big event. He probably will never have cleaner toilets. I did find it very hard relinquishing the turkey rights. I laid in bed worrying about him stuffing the bird properly and it took every ounce of power in me not to get up at 5:00 a.m. and go over to his house to help him stuff it. Everything turned out great. Food was wonderful, and everyone behaved themselves. One holiday down, only one more to go! I'm attaching a picture of my son's table. Pretty proud of that kid. Lighting was not the greatest but I think you can see enough of it. He now wants to build the chairs to go with it. My elderly dad is at the corner of the table. Brother-in-law in the doorway.6 points

That has made the difference in many a quit Read all the Green Pinned Posts on the Quit Smoking Discussion page (top of the page there) and watch what ever Joel videos you think might help you understand this addiction and how quitting is very possible. Hello Leon and welcome to our merry band of nicotine free/smoke free creatures. I think the first thing I had to understand was The Law of Addiction this understanding and acceptance that I had an addiction helped me to fight it with my whole being and attain my freedom. You can be free too. It isn't impossible or even insanely difficult. You must want to quit more than you want to smoke or vape and education will tip the balance. Hi Leon and welcome to our forum. You will get as much support as you need here. There is lots to read to educate yourself about addiction and realize why you keep relapsing. Are you quitting cold turkey this time? If so I recommend coming on everyday and pledging NOPE just for the day. I stayed glued to the forum for my whole first year as I found being active really helped me keep my mind off my misery. Hopefully you'll find that as well5 points

I'm gutted - you were one of my biggest supporters early on Stewie. I don't know if you realize just what great things you have been a major part of on this form. Do what ya gotta do but know you have REAL friends here that care about you. Even though we may be virtual, doesn't mean we aren't real5 points

Seriously? i hope your joking but I kinda feel like you aren't. If you are serious, I wish you every joy and happiness the future can bring. You go have fun, live your dreams, and don't change for anyone. Thank you so much for being my friend and supporting me on my way through this first year of my quit. I really hope you live life to the limit and whatever items you have on your bucket list make sure you do them all. You go out and grab life by the throat an live it to the max. Set your goals high and fight to achieve them just like you did for your freedom from nicotine and you will be everything you want to be and more.5 points

I sailed through the first week but this week has been a lot harder. On Day 9 I became obsessed with the "have I quit too late" thought. I had read a few personal stories where people had got a smoking related health problem after they had quit, and the seed of fear spiralled out of control in my mind. I don't really regret anything in my life but I do regret relapsing so many times. I don't think I can ignore the damage smoking does or that it is a killer. I do think though I need to start focusing on the other benefits to quitting besides health. Fear and sadness at what could happen, or that other people are going through can end up being quite destructive. Positivity is a big part of any success. The rest of the week has been pretty tough going and it's as though my brain has split into two. Quit half is full of knowledge and knows that quitting is the best thing I have ever done. When this half is in charge I am at my happiest. Smoker half clearly still has a lot of catching up to do as it is constantly trying to justify why I should go and buy a packet of cigarettes. The internal debates are relentless and it has become quite overwhelming. I love the Joel Spitzer quote below. This week it definitely would have been easy to go back. I'm extra proud I have got through smoke free as it has been challenging. I've needed friends to reassure me and hold me up but I'm walking into the third week. The factor that really shows the addiction is not how hard or how easy it is to quit. What really shows the addiction is how universally easy it is to go back - Joel Spitzer5 points

Hello all, my name is Leon and I am a smoker of more than 20 years. I am 36 years old and The longest time I refrained from smoking was 42 days. That was more than 2 years ago. And was with the aide of a Vaporiser. I have been struggling with not smoking and always relapse no matter what I do. I would like to keep in contact daily, as I have been a member of a vapers forum, and from posting a thread nearly every other week, Has its downfalls as I was seen to be a troll, but was not. That is the reason for joining here. I have been trying to quit the cigarettes for over 3 years now. And would like some help with moral support as my family are smokers.4 points

Welcome aboard the QT Leon! There is nothing I can say that hasn't already been said above and everything said above is spot on. The only way to quit smoking is to QUIT SMOKING. You have to commit to not smoking no matter what. No matter how much it sucks, you can't smoke. Take smoking completely off the table. It is so worth the effort! I promise you that.4 points

Congratulations @Parsley for being smoke free for 3 months! Well done Parsley and welcome to the 25%ers club. Three months quit is a big one, that's 1/4 of the way to your first year of freedom. What a nice solid base to your quit you have there. I hope you had a wonderful smoke free thanksgiving without the stress of trying to sneak off for a smoke and all the extra time that would have given you with the grandbabies. Make sure you do something really special to reward yourself for this milestone, it is well earned.3 points
