  4. Morning NOPErs ... today is Love Your Red Hair day so all the rangas out there, love your ranga hair, rejoice in your blood nutterness, and embrace being a ginger because they say you are a dying breed, becoming rarer and rarer... my little one loves her red hair. More impressively it is also Guy Fawkes Night... bonfire night, gunpowder day... so for all our Bristskis have fun with the bangers, but blowing up parliament is still probably a NOPE. A great way to celebrate Guy Fawkes Night is to watch V for Vendetta, we will be. NOPE.... not blowing up my freedom.

  9. Congratulations @Octain for being 10 months smoke free. Well done Octain on being the newest member of the double digits club. What a fantastic quit you have built, a nice solid base for a lifetime smoke free. Rewards are still important and the double figure milestone is a huge achievement so make sure you do something special for yourself to celebrate your quit. We would love to know how you reward yourself.

  10. Well I have been away for a little bit, so time for a bit of a story. Starting with the title and no Memories doesn't refer to the Elaine Paige song. Sorry Cats fans! And it is not even about the way we were. Although first of all, maybe time to think back. Just how many of the tens or hundreds of thousands of cigarettes over the years were memorable for you? It may be that there are a few, but I bet it was more about the event you associate it with rather than the cigarette itself. I can't think of any myself. Three months into my quit, when it wasn't really completely solid, I made the decision to commit my money to a charity trek in The Grand Canyon and Zion National Park. Having just got back from it, I can tell you now it was the best decision I ever made. I've been a lot more open to jumping in and attending events with others since I quit and it led on to this trek. What a time! After the memorable journey for all the wrong reasons, 27 hours travelling is less than fun, I met up with 25 great people from a broad spectrum of the company I work at. It was truly the trip of a lifetime. From the moment we started hiking the South Rim of the Canyon, through to the two more challenging hikes the following days, the scenary, the company and the achievement of completing together was like nothing I had ever experienced. If anything Zion National Park was even more incredible. All of this because I chose to invest my £10 a day elsewhere. Saz speaks passionately about the value of rewards and having completed this it is something I really get. There's a natural high that no substance can replicate that you get from being out in the sun, with friends, achieving great things in the moment, as well as delivering the sort of sponsorship that will make life defining memories for others less fortunate. I could bang on about this for hours, but just to keep this simple for now, I know now I gave up nothing and gained everything. You can to, it doesn't all have to be spent on one big event, that's just what worked for me. Make sure you connect with the world and your true friends. That's the real reward. A few pictures from the trip for those interested, but just to add the pictures don't do the true beauty of it justice. https://flic.kr/s/aHsmuSgcq5

  12. ^^ fresh water, beach or ocean? ... you're not north enough for Barra are you? Goin' for Jewfish? Well Good Moring fellow NOPErs.... welcome to Saxophone Day... who doesn't love some good sax.... I have 3 and you know what since I quit I started playing them again.. and definately got more breath...but today is the day a race stops the nation, and those of us living in Melbourne get a public holiday just so we can watch the great race... that's right boys and girls today will be the 157th running of the Melbourne Cup.... the most prestige horse race in Australia and one of the greatest distance races in the world. 24 horses and their jockies will spend the 3-4 minutes of today hurtling around Flemington Racecourse to the cheers of a 100,000 plus crowd cheering their horse on... for 3,218m or 2 mile these majestic beasts will leave it all on the track... fortunes will be made and lost and drunken girls will walk home with their fancy shoes in their hands.... so for those punters out there... wait for the track assessment, its been raining on and off for the past 4 hours... think we might be looking at a softer track than normal.... will favour the Europeans... this years field has the usual Aussie and Kiwi contingent but in the true multicultural nature of the race there are also horses from Ireland, England, Germany, France, Japan and for the first time ever Scottland. So me grandad was a bookie... he said only mugs bet on the cup... but always put a bet on 2 and 6 for the quinella as that was his dad's unit... so that's my only tip... If there is a horse with a cracking name I'll have a punt but otherwise I just 2&6 it... comes up sometimes... I am really looking forward to my first smoke free cup in over a decade... will be so much better than getting nervy in a close race and going outside for a smoke and settling on the call on the tranny. I'll get to watch the whole thing this year. NOPE ... there are enough mugs in the world without me being one.

  13. This particular beach is in Hatteras N.C. We take a trip at least once a year to the OBX (Outer Banks). the house we have reserved for this spring is in Kitty Hawk N.C. https://www.joelambjr.com/booking/sea-scout/101#t-overview we have never stayed this far North, but since we are going in the off season,we thought it would be a good time to try it... it won’t have any crowds but will put us closer to restaurants and things... we like the seclusion of the Southern Beaches (Rodanthe to Hatteras)

Hey and as an after thought, just cos I'm an Aussie doesn't mean I steal shit... just wanted to be clear the prison was closed down over a100 years ago ?

About us

QuitTrain®, a quit smoking support community, was created by former smokers who have a deep desire to help people quit smoking and to help keep those quits intact.  This place should be a safe haven to escape the daily grind and focus on protecting our quits.  We don't believe that there is a "one size fits all" approach when it comes to quitting smoking.  Each of us has our own unique set of circumstances which contributes to how we go about quitting and more importantly, how we keep our quits.
