  1. Morning NOPErs... and welcome to the first Friday of the month... so checked the calendar... not too keen on Love Your Lawyer day and seriously question Deviled Eggs getting their own day.... so a fun facts are ... Emus... now I have noticed on you tube heaps of people can't say this word properly so lets start with that... they are not E-moos... no these freaky creatures are call Eam-you-s (eam as in beam).... anyway back to the fun stuff, these are the second largest birds in the world and can grow up to 6ft high... and the chicks emus are bigger than bloke emus which are usually around the 5ft mark.... while they can not fly they can run up to 30m/hour and use their deformed midget wings as stabelisers when running. They can also swim and will cross rivers and lakes that are in their way. Emus use their lungs as a form of evaporative cooling during the warmer months and so need a large supply of water every day. The are able to jump up to 6ft high so if farming them (because down here we eat the animals on our coat of arms) you need really high fencing... speaking of coat of arms, Emus can not walk backwards (ditto the Kangaroo) which is why it is on the Aussie coat of arms... but on this day, 2nd Nov, in 1932 the The Great Emu War began... Farmers just outta Perth were being plagued by over 20,000 emus who were rampaging through fields destroying crops. Led by Major G.P.W. Meredith of the Seventh Heavy Battery of the Royal Australian Artillery, the army set out on 2 November 1932, determined to gun down a group of 50 birds in the district of Campion. They moved in formation behind the birds, and the birds answered their organised assault with inspired chaos, scattering themselves in all directions to minimise the casualties. Two days later, the emus had their revenge. Concealed gunners sighted 1,000 emus nearby, and waited patiently for them to make their way over. At point-blank range they open fired, killing12 emus. But then the machine-gun jammed. The emus scattered once again. The media had a field day, quoting one of the recruits as saying: "The emus have proved that they are not so stupid as they are usually considered to be." every day the papers in Melbourne and Sydney would give Emu War Updates that were hysterical and it was the biggest joke in town.... the army's next tactic was to chase them in trucks but due to the speed of the emus and the moving trucks they couldn't aim properly and the one emu they did kill got tangled in the trucks steering causing it to crash. In 6 days the army burnt through 2,500 rounds of ammo and killed 200 emus.... the army withdrew to strategise... eventually, later in the month when the Emus numbers were swelling and math showed that it was taking more than 10 bullets to kill one bird the army was withdrawn and the exercise deemed a waste of finances. A poli (politician) from NSW asked if a medal would be struck for the combatants in the conflict and his counterpart from WA responded "any medals should rightly go to the emus who won every round". So the moral of the story is... if big, dumb birds that can't even fly you can beat machine guns, trucks and an army the you can quit smoking.... things only seem impossible until you try. NOPE .... I don't do that anymore.

I truly appreciate you all sticking it out with me, The problem persists but I won't smoke.

  9. Is lighting up a cigarette going to answer all the questions and put things in a better light? Nope. All that will happen is you will get a temporary nicotine fix and be right back to square one in regards to your quit. Anything else you are dealing with at the current moment will remain unchanged by smoking a cigarette. The power to stay quit is 100% in your control. No outside factor(s) can make you throw away your quit. Choose wisely.

  16. Tammy, listen. I'm usualy not one for the guilt game, but ill make an exception. The thing is, I look up to you. I follow Linda and then YOU, in your well carved footsteps. You can't let me down, so smoking would not be an option anyway. Ha! No seriously. I hope you will be in a better brighter place real soon. The only way is NOPE. But, make your nope with a tea, or hot honey water. Take care of yourself ok?

  17. You have a lot of people giving you good and honest advice. Some who have been where you are and have made the wrong choice. Be sure you make the right choice and stay quit! Too much invested to give it up now. Times of trial make us want to retreat to familiar and comfortable things. Smoking is ingrained in your brain as a familiar and comfortable thing and that's why you want to go there not but .... it's not a good place. It's the place you so desperately wanted to get away from. Keep going in the quit direction because going backward is never a good thing.

  19. I totally agree with Boo. I have given up on past quits and regretted it immediately. The relief is so temporary, followed by immense sadness and disappointment in yourself. You will stink and just feel horrible....plus your problem will still be there!! Please don't smoke .

  20. You have a great quit going, Tammy. Don't give up on it. Hopefully you've noticed considerable positive life changes since putting out that last cigarette. You will just throw all that away if you smoke again. I've relapsed before. That relapse cigarette is horrible. It will not give you peace or relaxation. It will just taste horrible and you will feel horrible. Please don't light up. Nothing is worth going back to being a smoker.

  22. Doesn't sound stupid at all. Most of us like a sense of normalcy and familiarity. That's just human nature. However, if we're going to reach our potential, there have to be moments of discomfort. Times when we break from the routine. It's the only way change can occur. Everyone who quit smoking felt those moments. The early days of a quit can be a confusing time both physically and mentally. With that being said, ask any former smoker if it was worth it in the long-run. My answer is a definitive, without-a-doubt YES!

  23. The crave will pass, you dont want to start over. Any straws around? Cut one to the size of a cigg and make believe your smoking it, pull on it hold it in for 2-3 secs and continue until the crave ( anxious feeling) goes away

  25. I know Johnny, nothing is ever fixed by this, I gotta keep this quit, it's a good thing it's 1 am here, no point looking for a smoke either but the damn irritating voice inside me just won't quieten down You know Boo, I am not even craving the fix, I just want a semblance of something normal, something familiar, sounds stupid and I know it... Gotta grit my teeth and get through this.

  26. Don't allow that whining voice to tempt you....it WON'T make things better.

  27. Never be sorry! Just talk it out; that's why we're here. A cigarette won't fix it, won't fill the void, and only add to the regret. What will help is filling your heart with our light...take our strength and make it yours;.

About us

QuitTrain®, a quit smoking support community, was created by former smokers who have a deep desire to help people quit smoking and to help keep those quits intact.  This place should be a safe haven to escape the daily grind and focus on protecting our quits.  We don't believe that there is a "one size fits all" approach when it comes to quitting smoking.  Each of us has our own unique set of circumstances which contributes to how we go about quitting and more importantly, how we keep our quits.
