  2. Greetings fellow NOPErs... today is Roald Dahl Day.... (thanks UK) which is to celebrate the life and times of Roald not only as an awesome children's writer but also as an ace fighter pilot in WWII. Roald was dyslexic, that's why his writing has so many splendiferous words that he just made up..today is also Fortune Cookie Day... so I managed to find one (they aren't a big thing in Aus) and low and behold the fortune was the 13th of September is a successful day to quit and that is it. So lets check with the cookie, what will today be: Nope ... cos that's the way this cookie crumbles!

  5. You all know that I take care of my elderly parents but I also take care of an elderly woman, who is 103 and is such an inspiration to me. When I quit bus driving five years ago, I thought I would be bored with my time, so I signed up at our community center to help the elderly. (I didn't know my parents were going to be such a handful.) I was hooked up with Helen, who is 103 yrs. old, still lives on her own and only needed help with her wash (because her niece did not want her doing stairs to the basement). I also make a couple meals for her each week because she hated the meals on wheels. I love my time with this lady. Listening to her life stories. The main story that inspires me is that she smoked for 62 years and quit when her husband died of lung cancer. 62 years! and back then they did not have filters on those cigarettes. 62 years of putting that crap in her body and she is now 103 and in great shape. So here is hoping that we are here for a long time inspiring others.

  7. Will these kids go from vape to a crack pipe? Oxygen is all we should put in our lungs.... WASHINGTON (Reuters) - People who smoke high-voltage e-cigarettes have greater exposure to formaldehyde, a suspected carcinogen, than those who keep the voltage low, according to a study published in the New England Journal of Medicine on Wednesday. The study, which critics say is misleading and lacks context, is the latest contribution to a debate on the safety of e-cigarettes that has so far has yielded little long-term data, though most experts believe they are less toxic than combustible cigarettes. Researchers from Portland State University took flavored nicotine liquid made by Halo Cigs, a private company, and tested it in a personal vaporizer from Innokin. The vaporizer allows consumers to adjust the voltage from 3.3V to 5.0V. The higher the voltage the greater the nicotine kick, but also the greater the amount of formaldehyde. E-cigarette liquids typically contain propylene glycol, which when heated is known to release formaldehyde gas. "Vaping" at high voltage also produced formaldehyde-containing compounds known as hemiacetals, the researchers found.

  10. Congratulations @Christa326 for being one month smoke free! Well done Christa, that is the first and hardest month done and dusted. Its great to see you posting around the boards and offering support to your fellow newbie quitters. You are all forming a great quit group which is awesome to see. So the horrid first month is done, you need to keep re-wiring that brain and do something special to celebrate and reward yourself. KTQ you are doing so well.

  11. I've said it before and I'll repeat myself once more: big tobacco is well aware of the current trends in nicotine delivery systems. The same merchants of death who peddled the deadliest consumer product in the history of the world have diversified and are now heavily invested in the e-cig market. Only the gadget is new. The bullshit is the same as it ever was.

  16. I've met adults who think they've quit smoking because they switched to vape or E-Cig. No point in arguing with them, you won't win.

  25. I just wanted to add something for you peeps who are 7 or 8 months or even a year into your quits. I''m a year and a half in now and I can tell you for sure, I feel A LOT more confident now than I did at even a year so ........ if you are still feeling those small occasional moments of uncertainty, it does still get better as you build even more time into your quit. I just went through a whole pile of life crap in one month and the stress levels were very high for some time yet not once did the thought of having a smoke enter my mind in terms of making things better - not once!! I can't say the same would have been true at even 1 year quit so ........ it does still keep getting better and better the longer you just say NOPE

About us

QuitTrain®, a quit smoking support community, was created by former smokers who have a deep desire to help people quit smoking and to help keep those quits intact.  This place should be a safe haven to escape the daily grind and focus on protecting our quits.  We don't believe that there is a "one size fits all" approach when it comes to quitting smoking.  Each of us has our own unique set of circumstances which contributes to how we go about quitting and more importantly, how we keep our quits.
