? Just finished my last cigarette. Been waking up this past week feeling horrible. Coughing, headaches just all around crappy. Feeling a bit anxious but knowing it was time to take control and quit this addiction. It is literally running my life. Been smoking most of my life and I am really beginning to feel the adverse effects of what smoking has done to my body. I am pumped and ready to begin this quitting process. I am happy I found some support. I decided to go cold turkey and am armed with water, juice and healthy snacks. What little reading I have done here has already helped me tremendously. So here is the beginning of the new and improved me. Glad I found all of you.6 points

So @Wee fluffy me have you got your bags packed? Only two more days and you will be on that Lido Deck. Reci has sorted out the catering and decorations... I have told him that we required a rainbow & unicorn theme but not sure what he has come up with. I am sure it will be good. I think Doreen said she had something in the works for the entertainment, which I am sure will be stellar.5 points

When I read your post I wondered if you thought you had no purpose, nothing to give. Can I just say thank you for saying the withdrawal has made you “ready to commit violence”. You see I remember that feeling of being in withdrawal but I often forget it now. I forget how hard the struggle was in the beginning. I love it when someone says something so poignant that it gives me. A good reminder of why our quits need to be protected.4 points

Congratulations @TAMMYB9597 for being 5 months smoke free. To one of our newest members, sorry we missed your celebration on 28th. It would be great if you could pop into the introduction thread and tell us about yourself and your quit. 5 months is awesome, such a strong base for the rest of your life smoke free. Hope you did something to celebrate and reward yourself yesterday.3 points

Welcome aboard on this journey Nikki -- you have come to a great place. Take time to read and learn. There are a lot of great people here that are really great and always ready to help. Remember cold water will help as well as deep breathing -- many other tricks that others will share also. And remember to come back here every day to make your daily NOPE pledge -- it really does help.3 points

Welcome to QuitTrain, Nikki! Congratulations on deciding to quit smoking. Quitting smoking can be challenging but education about nicotine addiction and support in quitting can really help you stay quit for good. You can get both here. There are a lot of great people here that will help you with whatever questions or struggles you may have. Reach out whenever you need support and read as much as you can about quitting smoking. You can do this and life as a non-smoker is much greater than being a slave to nicotine addiction. It is good to have you here.3 points

Hi nikki welcome to the train Today is a GREAT day to quit smoking and take your life back. I'm convinced that I wouldn't have succeeded without the support of fellow quitters from all over the world! After all, who Vetter knows what we're going through better than us?! I found that being active here supporting, reading, posting, celebrating and socializing really helped keep my mind off my misery. Hopefully the same will be true for you3 points

That's an interesting idea As a smoker, I'm not sure I ever identified as "an addict"? Addicts were those down & out people who hid in the shadows putting all sorts of horrible stuff into their veins using a needle. I'm not sure I even was aware that smoking was an addiction before I quit and started educating myself about smoking. It was just a bad habit, right? I often notice that sort of terminology being used here when someone new arrives and posts about quitting. I was the same in the beginning too. Education about this addiction is a key to quitting and staying quit!3 points

Well, Quitting is a single event, but after you quit what follows is a process of separation and recovery from the addiction. In your first year, you will experience many triggers and stressful situations where you may be reminded to smoke. Each time you confront these triggers and do not smoke, you win. That is how we eliminate triggers, and handle stress as non-smokers. Each time you do that, you find more and more freedom as you stay quit longer. Be grateful you have quit, because smoking always made stressful situations even more stressful. I am sure you will be fine with your move. Just remember that smoking would not in any way help your move, or decrease the stress. It offers to you no benefit at all. Recognize these lies the addiction created in the reptile part of your brain, and keep going with your move, and your life. Never forget, in any situation that you believe may challenge your quit, that as long as you keep your quit, tomorrow will always be better than today. The farther you move in time from your last cigarette, the more beautiful life becomes in terms of freedom, mental, physical, emotional and spiritual health. Cristóbal3 points

Cubs have dealt with a couple of tough loses to the Cardinals. Still, I have been impressed with recently acquired reliever Jesse Chavez. He has pitched well for us so far. It was announced last night that Tyler Chatwood will be heading to the bullpen to make room for Cole Hamels in the starting rotation. Chatwood is averaging over 8 walks per nine innings this year which is crazy. Hopefully he can figure stuff out now that he isn't in the starting rotation. I agree with Boo. I think the Hamels trade is low risk, potentially high reward for us, especially since the Cubs didn't give up a ton for him. At the bare minimum, I hope Hamels is an upgrade over Chatwood, which isn't asking for much.2 points

Very true Givi! We all forget the intensity of our early quit days after some time has passed and that can put us at risk of becoming complacent about protecting our quits. That's how new quitters help us longer term people. They remind us of just how precious our hard won quits are2 points

Yep. Moving is stressful. However, I haven't had a single smoking thought through the whole process of moving. There hasn't been any time for it. Staying busy is one of the best ways to avoid cravings and moving will keep you very busy. You finish one job and there's twenty more waiting to be done. You'll be fine GITW. Just remember: lift with your legs and don't put anything in your mouth and light it on fire.2 points

I would like to add that if people had to go and register with their doctor as an addict to be able to get cigarettes, it would take the illusions away that smoking is normal, maybe even sociable or even attractive etc. When you smoked in public you would be saying to you the world that I’m an addict and my doc wrote me a note so I can keep breathing in this harmful thing and I haven’t found a way yet to stop doing it.2 points

Hi Giveintowin For many of us there seems to be no shortage of the type of trigger situations that you describe that can make you feel vulnerable after quitting. It seems to help you when you post in preparation for these situations, so it is probably a good thing that you continue to do so. No need to feel child like about it. A quit can end so quickly. Probably better to stick with the things that have been working. I think it is also a good thing for many others that you post about these things. Thanks. I hope you have an easy move.2 points
