  2. Hi everyone! I am back, 9 hours into this quit, courtesy of determination and a nicotine patch. Tomorrow morning I will take my first nope pledge. For now, I'm off to Dreamland. I'm lucky that I don't have disturbing dreams when I wear them at night. I'll see you all bright and early in the morning!

  6. So my Grandma taught me beetroot jam... but my mum's aunty taught me beetroot relish.... relish is less sweet... its like a sweet pickle spread... awesome on sangas (sandwiches) with left over roast lamb or beef or even just with some deli ham. So this is the one I buy: relish/chutney... same/same.... so this tastes more like my jam recipe than my relish recipe... @Wee fluffy me I'm off to put my recipies for both in the foodie section.

  9. Hello Michelle, as someone who has recently quit (almost a month, but not quite) I can tell you it gets easier each day. Shout out for all the support you need, it helps to talk out your cravings, helps to talk about what's going on in your mind. Keep at it, one hour, one day at a time, and soon you'll be helping out others in this forum on their journey.

  10. Dear Jo..... First off you are sooooo brave going in your shed, sheds frighten me as I think about the spiders lurking in them, but your spiders are something else ...eeeeeeeek.... seriously though.... I agree what the old phartes say, and I was an old pharte once too, had been quit for over two years, these thoughts come and go for a long time. my hubby,s uncle has been quit for over 30 years, and when he smells a cigarette, he says it still smells pleasant to him, but he wouldn't want to get back to smoking.

  19. I have never made jam or any of the stuff you mentioned but my Mum used to make the best ever strawberry and/or raspberry jam I ever tasted. I'm sure she has a recipe somewhere but you know those old dollies who could cook up a storm would always change something up a little to their recipe so, even if you had the recipe, you would never be able to match the outcome 100%. She was also a whiz at sewing. She would make the coolest Raggedy Ann & Andy stuffed dolls for her grand kiddies They looked very professional once she'd finish with them. It was all self taught too. That's how it was in those days. Learn from someone older then practice, practice, practice! She stopped making those preserves and sewing when she hit about 90 years old. Boy I sure do miss her homemade stuff. Can't buy anything like that in any store or even at the farmer's market. I guess those of us lucky enough to have had mother's who had those talents were truly blessed to have experienced that. Kind of spoils you a little though. Now all the commercially made stuff tastes like crap ?

  21. Welcome Zee, good to see you here, and don't worry about the weight, give yourself a month or so and then when you feel more comfortable with your quit, then tackle the weight.

  22. There must be something about that 7 or 8 month mark. After the first couple of months of my quit, I was feeling very strong and confident. Then, around my 8th month, I was taken completely off guard by continual strong thoughts of smoking that lasted an entire weekend. I didn't smoke but I was quite pissed that I was still getting those feelings to light up. As others have said, the first year is filled with all kinds of seasonal triggers but your quit gets stronger as you fight through them. And, it does get much easier with time. You are doing great, Jo. These speed bumps will happen but just fight through them and don't light up.

About us

QuitTrain®, a quit smoking support community, was created by former smokers who have a deep desire to help people quit smoking and to help keep those quits intact.  This place should be a safe haven to escape the daily grind and focus on protecting our quits.  We don't believe that there is a "one size fits all" approach when it comes to quitting smoking.  Each of us has our own unique set of circumstances which contributes to how we go about quitting and more importantly, how we keep our quits.
