  4. Oh Givvy wot a crap arse shitful weekend. 1... OK, I'm working on a big post about giving up a long quit, over 6 years worth, with the impetus being an accident. So the first thing here is WELL BLOODY DONE you little ripper... you faced down that nicob1tch as she exploited all your uncertainties and fears and you kicked her arse to the curb. That is a huge achievement... 8 months (tomorrow) in and you achieved what I didn't achieve after 6+ years and I wasn't in a brace on a hospital bed contemplating the unkown. So you thought about it, but you didn't, hold your head high chook cos you did good, yeah. 2... when you first get diagnosed with oseophytes its scary and depending where they are located and their shape they can be quite dangerous. Unfortunately they are a normal part of aging and most of us on this board over 40 will have at least one oseophyte somewhere in their body. So basically an oseophyte is a 'bone' (cartlidge calcification) spur at any joint in the body. They are more common in the neck and along the spine. So it all depends on their shape and where they are if it is something worth worrying about. I have 1 at C4-5... 3 at C5-6 and another at C6-7 ... I'm not trying to play down how serious it can be because it can be very serious but it can also be very mild and just need monitoring. I'm sharing because understanding gives you power, and takes away some of the stress and anxiety of the unknown. If you want to talk about it more happy to take a pm. Mine was picked up nearly 4 years ago after an accident at softball, and I know the fear and worry you have when the prognosis and thought of spinal surgery is unknown. Its scary and its perfectly normal and ok to be scared and worried. So... big woohoo to you for staying the course and not giving up your quit.... HUGE fell better and get well soon vibes being sent north of the boarder... hope to see you back on the boards soon sharing your insights and perspectives.... and keeping you in my thoughts until they resolve what is next with the neck.

  15. Morning NOPErs.. welcome to another fun Monday... the Yanky Doodles have a bucket full of special days but the UN gives us International Day of the Seafarer...so because a bunch of sailors went to sea, sea, sea to the see what they could sea, sea, sea and they saw Australia I say thank you seafarers... and thanks to the new crop who bring all those things made overseas to our fine shores so we can but things in our shops....now we do have another Global day....It was in the year 1960, on a foggy island found Nor-Norwest of Spain that music history changed forever. Four young lads came together to form what would be one of the most influential rock bands to ever come out of England, if not the entire world. We’re speaking, of course, of the Beatles. Paul McCartney, George Harrison, John Lennon, and Ringo Starr. These four boys came together to change the world one song at a time. So for Global Beatles Day.... Topic of the day: Staying on Slang...

  18. Or acceptance, we know what might be instore and we choose to run the risk... looking at it now and then isn't going to change the innevitable, if its meant to be its meant to be.. its a devil may care way to live your life but lots of us do it... its (on a bigger scale) like knowing the speed limit and ignoring it, because if you get caught you get caught. Sometimes I think that was the way I dealt with it. The only one that ever upset me was the baby ones.

  19. Yes @Doreensfree wonderful things are about to happen...and I'm sticking to the ride, even though it's a little bumpy right now. But then if it was smooth sailing, I wouldn't appreciate it as much would I now? I haven't given my brain anytime to think today, and it's helped, because I haven't thought of smoking. I have a nagging feeling of being a little blank (not sure if you know what I mean) but I'm just jumpstarting my brain every now and then. Cleaning my house, watering the plants, just sitting by my window (the view is nice) and just trying to envision myself healthier. I also need to start a fitness regimen real soon. J It's a beautiful day again, Mother Nature has been kind...so I will go for my walk or better yet, go near the shore, and just sit and watch the waves... Happy Sunday to you and everyone on here too

  20. @Boo yes!!! I love the sound of water and rain. Well, rain I don't need to listen to videos, raining like crazy in my city, and everything is turning a fresh shade of green. It's as if Mother Nature is just showing me how good it is to turn the proverbial new leaf...the air is cleaner and fresher...everything pointing to the fact that since I am not harassing my lungs with that toxic fume, I can experience all this so much better Thank you for the lovely note. Particularly for "Every thought has as much or as little power as you give it." If that's not a mic drop moment, I don't know what is !!!

  25. I know i am not smoking, it's 1.30 am here, I have no smokes around neither is it possible to get any anyways at this hour (not as many 24/7 shops as one may think in Mumbai). But my brain is keeping me awake... My body is exhausted, it's been a long week at work and this afternoon I walked a lot to shrug off the cravings. Just need some tips on how to quieten my head and get some rest. I wish there was an off switch, it's tiring

  26. You are doing great, Tammy. Everyone here has been through those early days and yes, they can be tough. But, it is very doable. You are re-learning how to live life without those nasty cancer sticks. It is a big adjustment but it does get better. You are doing a truly great thing. Keep up the awesome work.

  29. Fluffy 5 Me 6 They are to scavenge in the furthest recesses of the freezer and cupboards this week for anything they can find. You're welcome. Think of the poor chilli, the lone voice in the distance calling to you. Well it and all it's buddies. A cacophony of helpless Chilli voices crying out, "Help us Fluffy we are dying". Because really chillies don't know what to do with themselves in the hot weather. When you have time we are going to have to talk about your fruit and veg planting strategy. Why on earth have you got chillies if you don't like them? Go for some beautiful home grown tomatoes instead. As for the spelling I get a different explanation and I hadn't come across the 1 "l" spelling. From the article below https://www.grammarphobia.com/blog/2013/09/chili-chile-or-chilli.html The usual spelling in American English is “chili,” but “chile” is an acceptable variant. The usual spelling in British English is “chilli.” (The plurals are “chilies” or “chiles” in the US, and “chillies” in the UK.)

  30. The obsessive thoughts are damn near impossible to avoid during the early stages of a quit. However, you are in total control of how you respond to those thoughts. The turning point of my quit was when I quit fighting the thoughts. They're just thoughts. They come and go. Let the thoughts happen, observe them for what they are and move on. Every thought has as much or as little power as you give it. As for calming the mind at night...deep breathing exercises are great. Just focus on your breathing and nothing else. I also found calming music and those relaxing sound videos on YouTube helpful at times. I was particularly fond of the ones featuring the sounds of rain. You're doing great Tammy. Proceed.

  31. Tammy, It is tough in the early days, especially late in the evening. It is little comfort, but many have struggled with insomnia in the early stages of their quits. First thing, do remember this is temporary. Exercise is always a good start though it may be a little late in the day for that. Do you use meditation techniques at all, those can be very helpful? Other things that have tended to help me is either milky drinks or playing a lot of the games on here. Just focusing on something else which tires me mentally has been useful. Hope you find some respite.

About us

QuitTrain®, a quit smoking support community, was created by former smokers who have a deep desire to help people quit smoking and to help keep those quits intact.  This place should be a safe haven to escape the daily grind and focus on protecting our quits.  We don't believe that there is a "one size fits all" approach when it comes to quitting smoking.  Each of us has our own unique set of circumstances which contributes to how we go about quitting and more importantly, how we keep our quits.
