Welcome to the weekend NOPErs. Today is Let It Go day.... which was a great life model until Disney came along and kinda destroyed it for everyone over he age of 8...So Let It Go day is about letting the negative stuff go... and focusing on the positives and moving forward. Living in the past isn't going to change it or make the now any better only putting one foot in front of the other and continuing your journey will do that... here's an apt quote: ”I don’t really have any regrets because if I choose not to do something there is usually a very good reason. Once I’ve made the decision I don’t view it as a missed opportunity, just a different path. ~ Andrew Lincoln So those nagging regrets and grudges that tug at your soul weeks, months or even years after the people, jobs or situations which once made them important ceased to be part of your life? That is exactly what Let It Go Day is all about; a day to take the brave step to cast away all those hang-ups from a previous chapter in your life. ... well maybe not all of them... but pick one, just one and let it go.. That's a big fat NOPE for me... cos I'm letting the nicodemon's hold on me go! . Topic of the Day: Silly Place Names.6 points

In the spirit of the world cup thing that seems to be still lingering, we will be playing a Game of "Bull Footy" this weekend! That's where we dress up in our protective gear and play footy in a bull ring with a real live Bull ? Just as with regular footy, there's rarely any scoring but holy crap! Those injuries are for REAL in our game. Hey! This is the internet. I can say pretty much anything I want to5 points

Congratulations @Opah for being smoke free for 3 months. Well done on being 1/4 of the way to the Lido Deck. Despite prolonged hospital visits and your health you have managed to stay smoke free.4 points

Sorry about your car accident but glad they found your neck problem before something even worse could happen. I think your feelings are totally normal, at least for me they would be. I remember posting a topic along the lines of what would you do if you found out you had a terminal illness. Would you start smoking again? I said I would since I was dying anyway..... Hope you feel better soon!4 points

The obsessive thoughts are damn near impossible to avoid during the early stages of a quit. However, you are in total control of how you respond to those thoughts. The turning point of my quit was when I quit fighting the thoughts. They're just thoughts. They come and go. Let the thoughts happen, observe them for what they are and move on. Every thought has as much or as little power as you give it. As for calming the mind at night...deep breathing exercises are great. Just focus on your breathing and nothing else. I also found calming music and those relaxing sound videos on YouTube helpful at times. I was particularly fond of the ones featuring the sounds of rain. You're doing great Tammy. Proceed.3 points

Tammy, It is tough in the early days, especially late in the evening. It is little comfort, but many have struggled with insomnia in the early stages of their quits. First thing, do remember this is temporary. Exercise is always a good start though it may be a little late in the day for that. Do you use meditation techniques at all, those can be very helpful? Other things that have tended to help me is either milky drinks or playing a lot of the games on here. Just focusing on something else which tires me mentally has been useful. Hope you find some respite.3 points

welcome Silver. I gave up a 6+ year quit over a decade ago. Took me a long time to seriously quit again. I can honestly say this quit is a completely different kettle of fish than the previous successful one. I am finding this quit easier at 6 months than the other one was at 6 years. So... from my early days of being quit and on a forum, I would often feel weird sharing things because of the previous lost quit. Don't feel that way. Noone here judges, noone is going to sit behind their keyboard and think oh what would Silver know blah blah blah.... because its not true and I regret not commenting on things in the early days that could have helped others when I had the chance. Its a unique feeling, being early in a quit but having knowledge of being further down the track. Everything you have to add is valid. So lots of great advice already, read up on all the facts, knowledge is power. Keep hydrated and also keep your blood sugar up. Love yourself, before you give yourself a hard time about something think about how you would respond to someone else in that position and treat yourself that way. Daily NOPE is a well worth it. Jo PS @Sazerac I'll post my giving up a long quit story, I think its time.3 points

When I was a 11 or 12 years old, before I started smoking, my uncle gave me a "pinch" of his smokeless tobacco. you didn't chew, just put it between cheek and gum. It was just awful and I ended up gagging and spitting it out within 15 seconds and then had to go brush my teeth to get the taste out. I remember thinking how does anybody get to normal use of this. Years later I became a smoker and I had my answer. Then the question became "How stupid am I" ?2 points

Hey Silver, glad to see you on board. With a previous 6 year quit under your belt you obviously know what it takes. Congratulations on near two weeks quit this time round. I'd recommend consistent use of the daily nope thread and lots of reading, posting, water and sleep. With the more you post, the better we get to know you and it can help to get a clue if at any point you are struggling. Settle in and look forward to seeing you around.2 points
