May the fourth be with you! That's right sticks & chicks... its International Star Wars Day because all day long we can say May the Fourth be with you and not sound like complete nerdstickles. And while we have all the force with us, lets think about the humble chooks in there battery cages just so we can have some nuggets... may the force be with them too. So as I say NOPE today, I will use the force because it is strong within me. Topic of the day: Star Wars and its Sci-fi buddies.7 points

On a different forum for people with serious diseases, including many people who are there because of cigarettes, I see quite a few threads of the form "trying to quit smoking..." I used to approach my quit that way before, I see these people posting again later, how they 'slipped;. Sometimes I post there and give a little blurb of the values of a dedicated quit smoking forum, namely us here, but I often think people are looking more for sympathy or to rant than to really quit smoking. Sadly there are lots of people with COPD, lung cancer or heart disease to name a few, who continue to smoke, believe it or not. Be glad you aren't one of them.6 points

Good morning my lovely fellow quitters.... today is World Press Freedom Day... and on world press freedom day I like to remember the Balibo Five, Tim Lopes, The Charlie Hedbo attacks and all other journos killed trying to bring us the truth, even if it is just fake news. Fersdee Fun Fact: Lets talk stupid laws, in Victoria it is illegal for anyone to change a light bulb who isn't a qualified sparky (electrician) The fine for doing so is $10 per light bulb, I'll risk it. Also in Victoria, Under the Rain Making Control Act of 1967 it’s against the law to make rain clouds. The making of rain clouds is permitted as long as certain regulations are followed such as ensuring those employed in “carrying out rain-making operations” are qualified. But the stupidest law comes from Queensland where on the Gold Coast bikinis must not exceed more than six square inches of material. So because i have the right to report what I want when I want, today I will report that it is a fine day to say: NOPE. Topic of the day: Historical Figures6 points

Decided to quit lurking and introduce myself ? 47 nights ago , I laid in bed and thought to myself “ what if I got up tomorrow and didn’t smoke?!?, what if I just never lit another cigarette ?!?” Then there were all the negative voices , y’all know the ones , the “you’re too old “ “ at your age can you even be saved anymore.” You see im 56 and probably have smoked a pack a day for 38 years . Anyway I got up the next morning and have not smoked since. I cried , I screamed but I did not smoke ! It was harder than I thought and easier than I ever thought . It gets better , there are days now I will go six hours without thinking about smoking . I find that to be remarkable after 38 years? since it was a late night decision I had nothing to help so it was cold turkey. And to think I always had the strength and never knew it . Here’s to reminding myself every day ?5 points

It is day 5. I am on the patch, step 3, so still feeding my nicotine receptors. Yet, I still go through cravings; I imagine they are not as bad as if it was cold turkey, but there are times when the craves are intense. I get up from work and go for walks when I get a bad crave and that usually helps. I do deep breathing and meditation. I remind myself about why I decided to quit smoking and why I don't ever want to smoke another. I read about all the destructive things that smoking does. And while I don't want one, I crave one. My mind is a crazy thing. I am totally addicted not just to nicotine, but to smoking. I do get through the craves, and will continue to "fight" my way through each one and chose to do things that are good for me rather than giving in to the crave; but geez...it's tough. Logically it should be a no-brainer - do something good for me that I enjoy doing or do something bad for me that I do not enjoy. For me, one step at a time. Next week, I will go down step 2 of the patch.4 points

Yesterday I went and bought a very expensive air purifier. I won't say how much it was because I don't want to remember. I didn't buy an expensive air purifier because I'm rich and could afford to pay for the cleanest air possible. I bought an air purifier because sometimes my breathing isn't what it used to be and I get allergies etc. I grimaced as I handed over the money and thought of how many years I smoked with perfectly healthy, top functioning lungs. I felt like a dufas to say the least. I can console myself and think at least I don't smoke now, and that really expensive air purifier is only 4 weeks worth of cigarettes which are expensive in Australia. I'm six months quit and this is good, right! So dear young peeps keep your quit and keep your lungs etc in good order.4 points
