Hi all, I decided to quit smoking several months ago and set my quit date, which I changed a bit to coincide with my move to a new place - where I have not established any smoking places. I started on 4/29/2018 and am using the patch, which is taking the edge off the physical withdrawl, but I am still dealing with the habits like waking up in the morning with a cup of coffee, get in the car to go work, morning break, before and after lunch, afternoon break., etc. You name it, I had a habit. I am an addict. I am going to be 65 in July and have been smoking since I was 16. I "quit" a couple times, one when I was pregnant and once when my daughter was 10 and talked me into it. But this time, I wanted to quit for me. And as I read and learn, day by day, I am becoming more aware of how addicted I am and how much of my life has been controlled by my "need" for a cigarette. This is a battle of and for my life. I want to live and breathe; I started preparing for retirement and travel and began exercising on the tread mill. I worked hard to get up to 2 miles, but the shortness of breath I felt was not just from the exercise, it was from smoking. I have given enough time to smoking. Now that I am reaching 65, time is precious. I took time to smoke before I left for somewhere I wanted to go and time to smoke once I got there before I did what I wanted to do. So much time... Even with the patch on, there are times when I automatically reach for a cigarette. I bring celery sticks with me and on my drive to work yesterday morning, I noticed I was "smoking" a celery stick! Day by day, habit by habit, crave by crave... Best of luck to everyone.9 points

Decided to quit lurking and introduce myself ? 47 nights ago , I laid in bed and thought to myself “ what if I got up tomorrow and didn’t smoke?!?, what if I just never lit another cigarette ?!?” Then there were all the negative voices , y’all know the ones , the “you’re too old “ “ at your age can you even be saved anymore.” You see im 56 and probably have smoked a pack a day for 38 years . Anyway I got up the next morning and have not smoked since. I cried , I screamed but I did not smoke ! It was harder than I thought and easier than I ever thought . It gets better , there are days now I will go six hours without thinking about smoking . I find that to be remarkable after 38 years? since it was a late night decision I had nothing to help so it was cold turkey. And to think I always had the strength and never knew it . Here’s to reminding myself every day ?9 points

Yesterday I went and bought a very expensive air purifier. I won't say how much it was because I don't want to remember. I didn't buy an expensive air purifier because I'm rich and could afford to pay for the cleanest air possible. I bought an air purifier because sometimes my breathing isn't what it used to be and I get allergies etc. I grimaced as I handed over the money and thought of how many years I smoked with perfectly healthy, top functioning lungs. I felt like a dufas to say the least. I can console myself and think at least I don't smoke now, and that really expensive air purifier is only 4 weeks worth of cigarettes which are expensive in Australia. I'm six months quit and this is good, right! So dear young peeps keep your quit and keep your lungs etc in good order.8 points

Good morning my lovely fellow quitters.... today is World Press Freedom Day... and on world press freedom day I like to remember the Balibo Five, Tim Lopes, The Charlie Hedbo attacks and all other journos killed trying to bring us the truth, even if it is just fake news. Fersdee Fun Fact: Lets talk stupid laws, in Victoria it is illegal for anyone to change a light bulb who isn't a qualified sparky (electrician) The fine for doing so is $10 per light bulb, I'll risk it. Also in Victoria, Under the Rain Making Control Act of 1967 it’s against the law to make rain clouds. The making of rain clouds is permitted as long as certain regulations are followed such as ensuring those employed in “carrying out rain-making operations” are qualified. But the stupidest law comes from Queensland where on the Gold Coast bikinis must not exceed more than six square inches of material. So because i have the right to report what I want when I want, today I will report that it is a fine day to say: NOPE. Topic of the day: Historical Figures8 points

I have confidence in my quit and estimate my chance of relapse is low still...addiction is a wily condition and I am human. Here are my four maneuvers to avert relapse, ( Think again, Get right with yourself, Contact an ally, Post an SOS ) and a slew of red flags... When you know better yet, are purposefully leading yourself astray ~ think again, get right with yourself, contact an ally, post an SOS ~ If you have tiny tempting smokey thoughts that you are nuturing by not dismissing immediately and aggressively ~ think again, get right with yourself, contact an ally, post an SOS ~ I won't get addicted this time ~ think again, get right with yourself, contact an ally, post an SOS ~ Whenever you start to 'romance smoking' ~ think again, get right with yourself, contact an ally, post an SOS ~ If you seriously entertain the idea that smoking looks attractive or makes you feel carefree and part of the fun ~ think again, get right with yourself, contact an ally, post an SOS ~ If you are having silly thoughts like, my smoking friends are having a great time and I'm missing out ~ think again, get right with yourself, contact an ally, post an SOS ~ If you really wonder, what it would it taste like now, ~ think again, get right with yourself, contact an ally, post an SOS ~ Will I still get that, 'ahhhh' feeling ? ~ think again, get right with yourself, contact an ally, post an SOS ~ When you start to think that you are 'different' and that you can handle just one. ~ think again, get right with yourself, contact an ally, post an SOS ~ Do you think you can quit again without much effort? ~ think again, get right with yourself, contact an ally, post an SOS ~ If you want to give yourself permission for just one, once in a while, just this once ~ think again, get right with yourself, contact an ally, post an SOS ~ If you feel too secure in your quit and start to act cocky ~ think again, get right with yourself, contact an ally, post an SOS ~ If you propose to test your quit ~ think again, get right with yourself, contact an ally, post an SOS ~ Are you starting to believe, you've been quit long enough to handle a puff or two? ~ think again, get right with yourself, contact an ally, post an SOS ~ If you know too much to get addicted again ~ think again, get right with yourself, contact an ally, post an SOS ~ Whever you are doubting your commitment to your quit ~ think again, get right with yourself, contact an ally, post an SOS ~ If you ignore the reality that smoking is a terrifying choice with significant consequences ~ think again, get right with yourself, contact an ally, post an SOS ~ If you are dismissive of the fact that you can Never Take Another Puff, Not One Puff Ever. ~ think again, get right with yourself, contact an ally, post an SOS ~ I forgot the major red flag, I am not an addict ! ~ think again, get right with yourself, contact an ally, post an SOS ~ I'm an adult and I'll do wtf I want ! ~ think again, get right with yourself, contact an ally, post an SOS ~ Have you more red flags to add ? Different manuevers ?4 points

Greetings fellow Nopers. "Today is going to be whatever you make it, so if its sucky what are you doing to change it cos whinging wont help". And that was the conversation the kid just had with her dad when he was whinging... outta the mouths of babes. And without further ado.. Today I am going to make my day the best it can be because today I pledge NOPE. The topic of the day is "Lets Do Europe" ... so all things Europe.4 points

You are doing GREAT GITW!!! Just like all us other determined quitters here. There's nothing better we could have done for ourselves than quit this horrible addiction I too would be interested in your longer term impression of the air purifier. I know where I live, in the winter, a humidifier is a must and I have often thought a purifier would do a lot to remove the dust mites and what not from the indoor air that is just constantly being circulated by the furnace fan. We literally don't crack a window from October to April or May so, clean fresh air is hard to come by.4 points

Nah Givvy, nothing wrong at all with having an air purifier, and yes smokes are super expensive here and going up again in June. 6 months quit is great. You know if it gets to bad you could move to Tassie, they have the cleanest air in the world, besides the poles.4 points

It's still hard for me to believe. Granted, I didn't have just one. Oh, no. When I caved - I went allllllll the way. Must've smoked half a pack in that first hour. It was practically a binge session. But, yeah, it only took one moment of weakness and the floodgates opened. I'm surprised how oblivious to the addiction I'd allowed myself to become. There was no caution... no thought at all... that need for "constant vigilance" is a thousand percent accurate.4 points
