As you should all know, and with thanks to @Cbdave and his Australian Navy connections we are expecting our Master of Ceremonies @reciprocity back on board tomorrow. Before his return I'd just like to check with some of you Old Phartes that things are tip top in preparation for his return. Thanks to @Sslip and the Wees ( @Wee fluffy me & @WeegieWoman ) for hooking me up on the bucket department after my bucket incident earlier this week. Although I do think you went overboard just a bit.... Having a bucket meant I was finally able to get the blood off the carpet in Reci's office (don't ask but I can promise I wasn't trying to unlock the locked desk draw with his letter opener), and clean up the Lido Deck after the mess it was left in after last weeks celebrations for @ClaireP1973 ascension to the status of Old Pharte... so now I need to shout out to my very special Port Chop for giving up his time to sit there and make sure I cleaned it all to Reci's exacting standards and teaching me that sometimes I do like to take orders. Would you look at how sparkly the Lidi Deck is... PLEASE @Boo, @Whispers and @BKP make sure it stays that way until Reci is home. and I'm pretty sure I nailed the repairs to his desk chair and he wont be noticed, what do you think???.. Pork Chop artwork completes the repair in my opinion. OH who else is there to thank.... hmmm.... how could I forget my girl @jillar for filling the breach when someone wasn't on the list. You rock bunny buttski, what a ledg And lastly for me new girl @Sazerac thank you so much for your intervention with the rascally tits and making sure we got reci's tit message to let us know he was in danger... even if you did try to usurp the status quo of the congrats boards and brought a bit of anarchy to our lives. You my darling kept me on my toes but without you reci would probably still be stuck on that island or with those unscrupulous tanker people who originally picked him up. Oh and thanks to @Nancy , @Doreensfree , @PeaceTrain and everyone else for the encouragement and support, I really do like to be told I'm a good girl. Lastly thanks to everyone on the train for putty up with my meager efforts to fill Reci's impressive, large and somewhat clown like shoes.10 points

Hello Quit Train Community, On the new years resolution I had so many plans, yet everything escalated quickly, In January I finished my 5 year relationship with the person that made discover what love really was, After the break-up I didn't know how to deal with the situation, so smoking more, drinking & other things became an option, It got to the point where my housemates wouldn't even talk to me anymore, At the beginning of this month I've seeked for help as my work was getting in danger as well, With that wake up call, I have decided to wash my past away and put my head up, I'm done with the drinking and on the 18th I've decided to be done with smoking as well, Now I'm here sharing my long story short with you guys. On the other side, the weather is lovely in London, How are you guys ?6 points

I survived the show. Didn't smoke. I'm back home now, and feeling good. Gonna go put on comfy clothes and binge watch some TV to keep the ol noggin busy.4 points

If you have to leave the party Sunny, just leave. Your quit is fragile and won't be there tomorrow if you give in. Your friends will always be there for you. Breathe deep. Walk around the block. Or make your apologies and leave. Whatever you need to do to not smoke. You can do this.4 points

Thank you Sazerac, I could use all the confidence in my life I can get, hitting rock bottom was such an experience. Thank you Doreensfree, I'll try my best to do the daily pledge! Thank you WeegieWoman, I've tried NHS support but they have cut the funds in my area for the quit smoking program, Although, paying for the patches is a reminder & inspiration to keep going. Thank you Frezflops, I've actually just came back from a 30m run, my body is so messy right now that 30m a day will have to do until I gather more strength. Thank you everyone who for giving me such a warm welcome, I truly feel blessed to be around such amazing people. You guys are amazing!4 points

Glad you are taking steps to reclaim your life. We will do what we can to help support you. Take this one day at a time and remember to NOPE... not one puff ever... even if you just pledge it for 24 hours at a time it soon adds up to week and a month and before you know it you are a none-smoker. Keep your positive attitude and you can keep your quit.4 points

Welcome back @reciprocity. I hope you enjoyed your holidays and are ready to get back to your Master of Ceremony duties because I am glad to hand them back. I'd like to thank you for jacking up my slight OCD tendencies into a full blown affliction. I am sure I checked the list you left at least hourly, every day, by half way through your first day I had it memorized, didn't mean I didn't check, check, check. As per written instruction, the list of new members and their QDs can be located in the in tray on your desk. Speaking of your desk, can I just say I know a messy desk is supposed to be a sign of genius but seriously your desk was, um, unlike anything I had seen before. It was so much nicer once it was all cleaned and tidied. All documents that were once on your desk are now filed alphabetically in the filing cabinet, your welcome. Um speaking of your desk, your letter opener may be slightly bent, I have absolutely no idea how that happened but Port Chop did his best to straighten it and it will definitely still work. OK... lets get back to my required substitute duties in your absence: 1. Remember all the woohoos - Every woohoo on the official Reci woohoo list was covered and some new ones that snuck in or were missed. All woohoos had a cute little giffy thing.. ok some where big, but they were there.... All woohoos were written in reasonably readable and correct English, not the drivel you usually get from me, Pork Chop could even understand my woohoo posts. So for task number 1, my self assessment is : NAILED IT! 2. Ensure the Lido Deck is clean and presentable before and after the celebration on the 18th. ... when I turned in last night it was frickin spotless... I left @Whispers in charge of making sure it remained like that until your return, ergo any complaints can be directed to him. Pork Chop did supervise my cleaning of the Lido Deck to make sure it met your standards, gee he can be a bossy bugger sometimes and the jury is still out on me calling him Sir.... so self assessment (and cos @Doreensfree & @jillar & @Sazerac said so) : NAILED IT! (Hmm don't think that my stellar cleaning services on both your pigsty office, and the Lido Deck are me volunteering for future services in that area, although Pork Chop's reward system was not unappreciated and Dore's was purely inspirational.) 3. Don't break anything, while things might have gotten out of hands at time... um, nothing was broken, uh uh, not at all, everything is exactly how I found it or better... would I lie to you . So self assessment: NAILED (or gaffa'd) IT! 4. Don't Let Things Get Out Of Control.... so there was a little bit of anarchy at times and some celebration may have gone a little too far but pretty sure all things are fine and dandy and if not they will get better soon. So your guessed it: NAILED IT!! 5. Look after @MrTitwank and make sure he doesn't miss you too much ... lets just say that the language barrier doesn't just apply to the written word it seems when you have an accent as Strine as mine it can be a bit hard to always understand everything that's said. There were lots of cuddles and reassurances to help our boy when he missed you too much. I am sure he survived just fine, unlike my arse. SO, yep NAILED IT!! OK so being an overachiever and wanting to get a stellar report on my performance review I took it upon myself to add some points that should be considered for bonus credit..... * Sticking up for Canada when those silly Americans were being mean and saying you were their hat... I told em for ya, I even discovered one of them was posing as an Englishman to pull the hot Canadian chicks. Evidence of this service to my commonwealth cousin can be found on page 6 of the random thoughts thread. Nipped that shit in the bud for ya mate. * Rowing @ClaireP1973 all the fricking way to the lido deck because someone hid the keys to the motorised dingy... sure the row boat was all polished and schmicko but really... it was a long row and the poor girl had to listen to my banter and singing all the way there. She didn't complain but that's beside the point. And I did pack her a little picnic basket with hors d'oeuvres, canapes and bubbly for the trip... oooh that's another bonus point. * Catering services see above * Learning stuff about Ice Hockey... and while I haven't picked me team yet I have got it down to a final 2. * Not releasing the contents of the locked desk draw to everyone else .... so that will be a stellar review I receive wont it? ... oh and don't complain that i used my psychic abilities (or your letter opener) to jimmy open the locked desk draw, .....please, who locks their desk draw then leaves a chick from the land of criminals to be the one to sit at said desk... that's like putting a neon sign on it... "Open me if you can"....tsk tsk tsk don't be calling my bluff. AND speaking of that locked desk draw and its contents, I'm pretty sure promises were made to destroy all negatives and copies...hmmm. So as I hop away and leave you (thank goodness) to all the hard work that is Master of Ceremonies and hang up my substitute hat... can I just say no more holidays for you for at least 6 months.... because your absence has left me a broken woman... Edit: OH and Reci, ya owe our mate Chris ( @Cbdave ) a bevvy or two for callin in some favours with his Navy mates to get your arse off that tanker when they went from rescuers to kidnappers... it really is a shame they only wanted $1000 for you... just didn't appreciate your value did they... an you probably owe @Sslip a whole slab or a bottle of the expensive shit for keeping some degree of control over my lunacy.3 points

Congratulations @Jules1977 for being 5 months smoke free. 5 months is a great achievement. You have worked hard to get to this miles stone so take some time today to spoil yourself. Make sure to celebrate. Next month is a big one, almost half the way to freedom. You can do this. KTQ3 points

For reasons I still don't understand, but am completely grateful for: in the early days of my quit, with all the reading and researching I was doing, I was able to totally absorb and understand the concept of "NOPE". We addicts have to learn - and live - NOPE for the rest of our lives. I accept this. I believe this. I intend to live this. Well, there's also the concept of "you smoke, you die". I use this too, because I think it's true, for me. My breathing was for shite, for years. I don't dare go back.3 points

Get reading then sunny. I read endlessly in the beginning, particuarly about the harm smoking does but also how the body repairs itself. I just totally drilled that into my head, kept reiterating it over and over. Numerous different versions of the same info. That helped me and kept me occupied. And keep blogging too. Sharing your story will help you but also others.3 points

The craves can be brutal Sunny but they usually don’t last more than 20 Minutes....usually way less. It’s not easy! I have to distract myself or chew gum like mad. BUT they go away thankfully. Just keep on resisting. Every morning I wake up & say “I don’t smoke anymore” so when the craves come at me I find a different reason for them (whatever it takes) & a different way to cope with them. They pass. Hang on!3 points

Ugh. Posting through a tough one. Twizzlers in my fingers. Deep breaths. Took birthday girl outside so she can have a smoke break... (ironically, the ones I gave her earlier)... dang. This is just tempting the addiction. This sucks. A lot right now. Just a few more minutes... yes, I already feel the craving passing. I'll continue posting through these. Apologies if I become a pest. I did it though. Didn't smoke. Enable Beast Mode. I WILL NOT SMOKE TODAY.3 points

Hi novo, i used patches too and no way are they cheating. Im day 168 and categorically would not be here if i hadnt used the patches. I personally loved them ha. If you are uk like me are you utilising any of the free nhs smoking cessation services? I took all the help i could get and its worked for me. I liked checking in with the nurse weekly. Good for you chucking the drink and now the cigarettes too. Stay close to the board its great for information, comradery and killing time ? ps yes i seen London today looks toasting, seen some of the marathon on tv3 points

Communication from Joel regarding notsmokinjo's comments about 1% success rates using nicotine gum: Hello everyone: There seems to be a little bit of confusion as to what I actually have in a couple of my videos. I have never said that only 1% of people who use nicotine gum quit successfully. What I have said is that according to Gallup polling done in 2013, only 1% of people who have successfully quit smoking credited nicotine gum as their quitting method. Here are two videos that I have that discuss this issue: http://whyquit.com/joels-videos/whatever-you-do-dont-quit-smoking-cold-turkey/ http://whyquit.com/joels-videos/gallup-poll-most-quitters-credit-cold-turkey/ Here is the direct link to the Gallup poll's page regarding the survey: http://news.gallup.com/poll/163763/smokers-quit-tried-multiple-times.aspx Two other videos that I have that relate to this current discussion are http://whyquit.com/joels-videos/i-quit-the-wrong-way/ and http://whyquit.com/joels-videos/relapses-are-not-determined-by-how-you-quit-smoking/ Also related to discussions raised in this string is the page http://whyquit.com/joels-videos/is-cold-turkey-the-only-way-to-quit/ for it specifically talks about the fact that some people do quit by means other than cold turkey and those people should not be made to feel that their quits are in some way diminished because of the way they did it. Also, regarding the use of statistics that are often quoted as to an individual's chances of quitting, check out the page http://whyquit.com/joels-videos/breaking-free-from-nicotines-grip-is-more-doable-than-most-people-think/. Hope this clarifies the issues at hand. Joel3 points
