  3. This, my sticky quit, i did cold turkey. I had tried previous ways and methods none of which stuck. The biggest thing to note is I had to WANT to quit. I had to want it. Secondly, I had to keep myself busy and change my routine especially things I did while smoking. For instance I stopped drinking because that was a big trigger for me. I also kept my mind occupied. I suggest picking up a new hobbyao that when the thrill of quitting is gone you have the thrill of the new hobby. Finally, I used people on these boards as a crutch.

  6. I am still smokefree!!! Yesterday I drove 3 hours without smoking. I held a straw in my left hand for most of the trip. At one point I actually flicked it as if to get the ash off out the window. That was totally out of habit and without thinking. I thought it was kind of funny. It made me realize how much of this is the habit of smoking, the muscle memory. I was also also thinking about what seems different about this quit for me. It’s not as much of a struggle for me as the last time I quit. For that I’m super grateful but I won’t take it for granted. There is the chantix which may have a lot to do with it. But this time I think a big difference is I’m just taking it as it comes...like right now I’m not going to smoke kind of thing. Or when I feel an urge, I’m more accepting that an urge is just a natural part of the process. It’s ok to acknowledge and accept it knowing it will pass. In my previous quit it felt like an all-consuming, constant struggle and battle. I was often focused on the fear of never smoking again and feeding the anxieties that go with that. I muscled through it and stayed quit for three years. But I think because I was always saying, “you can’t do that. you can’t smoke” it was like I was denying myself something instead of giving myself the greatest gift of all. This time I just keep telling myself I have a choice. I can smoke or not smoke and I’ve wanted to not smoke for so many years that I think I won’t smoke right now. That’s the right choice for me right now. Rinse. Repeat. Today is is an amazingly sunny and beautiful day. I went for a walk on the beach with my husband who is also smokefree for a whole day now!! It was a wonderful time and reward. I felt a lot of joy!!! I washed and vacuumed the car to try to get some of the stink out. Under the driver’s seat I found one of my cigarettes. I looked at it for a moment or two trying to decide if I was tempted. I tossed it in the yard. When my husband came out I showed him — look what I found—and then I put it in the shop vac. So instead of me sucking on the cigarette, the cigarette got sucked up today!!!

I'll leave you guessing who that might be Anyway, try not to wreck the place while I'm gone OK? See you in a week! (Or, maybe not?)

  11. Thanks so much J, I love watching weather...maybe too much. When I drag myself away from the picture window, I have a safe room, the guest bathroom, which is equipped with hurricane and emergency supplies. It's where I spent Katrina. Two months till the season of joy, this is serving as a reminder to update batteries etc. The rest of the country in this storm looks pretty raggedy. Hope everybody stays safe.

  19. What a lovely post Rose. And I'm so happy that your hubby has decided to join your new smoke-free life. It resonates with me, your talking about what a gift you are giving yourself by quitting. It's true! I go to bed most every night just plain grateful that I now live life as a non-smoker. It's an amazing feeling.

  20. I'm assuming that's the same front moving through here tonight. We're about 2-3 hours from getting the brunt of it. Sky looks a bit ominous and the winds are picking up. Hunker down Johnny!

  24. splash with olive oil and roast peeled garlic, onions and winter squash (is orange OK...what does red colour mean...red peppers or red drinks ?) Sweet potatoes ?oranges, satsumas ? the red thing has me flummoxed. make your own nut or seed butter you can have honey ! popcorn can you have nutritional yeast ? it tastes salty. great on popcorn and is a cousin of VMite, I think. Make a paste with Olive Oil I think you can have Kosher salt or that really good black salt from India or Hawaii. what ? no banana ? here is a receipt of 16 vegan and no banana pancakes 1-1/3 cups nondairy milk (e.g., cashew milk or almond milk) 1 tablespoon cider vinegar 1-1/2 tablespoons neutral vegetable oil (I used avocado oil) 2 teaspoons vanilla extract 2 cups rolled oats (certified GF, as needed) 2 teaspoons baking powder ½ teaspoon baking soda ¼ teaspoon fine sea salt Blend on high speed until smooth. Heat griddle over medium heat; lightly grease with oil . Drop ¼ cup per pancake on griddle There are tons of good vegan receipts online. Remember, it is only for a few weeks and not as bad as hell week....maybe close though....no VMite ? What new hell is this...

About us

QuitTrain®, a quit smoking support community, was created by former smokers who have a deep desire to help people quit smoking and to help keep those quits intact.  This place should be a safe haven to escape the daily grind and focus on protecting our quits.  We don't believe that there is a "one size fits all" approach when it comes to quitting smoking.  Each of us has our own unique set of circumstances which contributes to how we go about quitting and more importantly, how we keep our quits.
