  1. Just noticed this post. I moving along at 10 days in now, never thought I would get here after over 40 years of smoking. Now I am seeing the benefits starting up -- never knew fresh air could be so good

  2. Last Saturday( this day last week) was the first time in 37 years that I left my house for work without a pack of cigarettes. I will never forget that day and feelings I was having. Oh, the clatter in my lungs is completely gone. I can actually take deep breath‘s without the urge to cough.

  3. Nope...day 11 of being a nonsmoker! Heavy snow here in upstate N.Y today. Even if I wanted to, I couldn't get out to buy a pack of smokes. Probably a good thing as the weekends are hard for me to abstain.

  4. Yep, 8th underway. I never believed that I’d be a non-smoker. One day at a time.

  5. I quit around 73 hours ago. It feels great. I can breathe easier, my blood pressure is improved, and I don't have to buy the things anymore. I am so glad nicotine is gone, I am never ever using it again.

  6. Hey Newbies, stand up and be counted! Anyone on this board with less than 1 month quit, let's hear from you now! i quit smoking in May of 2017, so I remember very well what it was like to be where you are right now. These last few weeks, I've been inspired to see so many new people here on the board fighting their way through the early days of their quits. It will be great also to see you all in one place. So step forward now!

  7. Just wanted to give a shout out to all you newbies who have joined us in the last week or so. We're thrilled to have you with us and we're cheering you on 100%! We know the struggle to readjust as a non-smoker and we also know that that struggle is only temporary and that the benefits are forever! Keep climbing that rope!!

  8. I feel mentally and emotionally better than I did as a smoker. My problems have not vanished, but life is a lot less bleak. Tobacco addiction was like an invisible prison. Not even technically at day four yet. Still I feel better. This is the best thing I could have done for myself. Smoking really makes mental health issues a lot worse, nicotine is a really nasty mind/mood altering substance that I am never using again.

  10. Day 8. I feel really good today. The cravings aren’t constant. I think I felt so bad that even brief moments with no cravings mean a lot. But I don’t want to get too cocky. Never know what the next hour or hours may bring.

  13. Proud of all you Newbies! Yes, there will be challenges even after your body is clean of nicotine but that's because you need time to rewire your brain to live your normal daily life without smoking being attached to everything you do pretty much. That just takes time and patience on your part. We all go through it and providing we keep to the NOPE pledge we make every day, we all come out being very happy (and healthy) to be non-smokers for life

  16. Yep. If you’re anything like me, alone time is tough on me. My wife and I work almost different shifts so I spend a lot of time alone. 11 days is something to celebrate. Keep going…

  18. Three months might have a battle in store. I was stupid though, looking through some smoking related junk on the web, old ads. But as quick as the hard crave came, it went. BTW, it looks now like you are on your 8th day, meaning MORE than a week Quit.

  19. Things are about to get better, you are at two weeks! That was a big milestone for me. A lot of people say that when you quit you have to quit for two weeks. I found that to be true, right around the two week mark I remember waking up and not thinking about a cigarette until I got to work.

  21. Octain you are doing great. I too am beginning to breath better (much better in fact) and this is really motivating me on this journey -- lungs not hurting. Saw my Doctor yesterday and she was ecstatic that I had gone a week. Also what really surprised me was a smoker had sat a couple of seats away and the smell of smoke was overwhelming to me (the person was not smoking at the time) no wonder some people would avoid me when they could in the past. Keep pressing forward you have this.

  26. I get a real kick out of posts like this where new quitters are in awe of people with 2 or 3 months quit and those with 2 or 3 months quit can't imagine having a whole year quit. It seems like yesterday, that was me. Completely gob-smacked by people with a couple months quit. I could not even relate to people with a year or more quit back then. What the hell could they know about what I was going through. They were long safe in their new non-smoking lives and well .... I was certainly different from them. Now I'm almost a year quit myself and looking back at those who came after me admiring their courage, knowing their daily struggle. It is the same as I had every day not that long ago. I almost miss those daily battles with the addiction that enslaved me for so many years. I now know that all those things the "elders" told me back when I was a few days or weeks quit was absolutely true. A strong personal commitment, education about this addiction, support from your peers here and a daily pledge of NOPE is all any of us needs to make it to freedom. Truly an amazing journey

  30. It will be like that for a bit Octain - ups and downs but know that this is completely normal. It WILL smooth out in pretty short order providing you stick with the NOPE program. I remember some days in my early quit when the craving seemed to be just constant. Next day, not so much. It's a process. Stick with it & you will be happy you did

  32. I love how you are focused on the positives you are realizing after quitting rather than dwelling on the challenges you face in the early quit. Makes the whole process that much easier and more rewarding sooner. Doing GREAT Octain

  41. Hi Jerry. A lot of good support here. A lot of good folks with only one priority, quitting. Keep up the good work. Something that works for me, I repeat this to myself several times a day. They have nothing to offer us. They take away our time, money and health.

  42. Wasn't really feeling it this morning, but did my strength work anyway. Some days you're hitting on all cylinders. Other days you just punch the clock and do the work.

  43. Thank you all for the support and encouragement. I appreciate this and helps a great deal. Joel thanks for the link to the video, also as to the fears what I had meant to refer to is that my fears about quitting were stupid and to let that go so the commitment to quitting could go forward. Again thanks to all and look forward to this journey with your support.

  44. I long for three months no smoke LOL. One of the biggest things to keep me from relapse is throwing away the time I have. And l only have six days LOL( in my seventh day today). I couldn’t imagine being tempted to throw away three months. I’m glad you’re feeling better today. They do nothing for us. They take our money, our time and our health. They have nothing to offer.

  45. Yeah I think it mostly passed because today i have not wanted to smoke any more than I usually do, which the craves are rather weak. Hopefully it is gone anyways. I didn't really do much other than write here about getting hit with an "out of nowhere" crave. I NOW know exactly what caused it though- Have you ever heard the expression "When I have sex it is so good that even the neighbors need a cigarette after"? I believe my neighbor was getting pretty "romantic". Weird thing was, the crave hit about two hours after my neighbor's husband left for work and some other car pulled into the driveway. Good thing I do not live next to newlyweds. My "Quit" would be done long ago.

About us

QuitTrain®, a quit smoking support community, was created by former smokers who have a deep desire to help people quit smoking and to help keep those quits intact.  This place should be a safe haven to escape the daily grind and focus on protecting our quits.  We don't believe that there is a "one size fits all" approach when it comes to quitting smoking.  Each of us has our own unique set of circumstances which contributes to how we go about quitting and more importantly, how we keep our quits.
