  11. Just wanted to share that this is my 3rd full day without smoking. This morning i decided to Go without the patch. I lasted until 330pm at work and had to put a patch on. I was so happy that I didnt just indulge in a drag but frustrated I needed the patch on.

  17. Latoya, you've already received great advice above. So, I really don't have much to add. If you commit to the quit and take smoking completely off the table, this will be the last time you quit. Guaranteed. As all-consuming as the withdrawal and obsessive thoughts during the early days feel, the long-term benefits make the rough patches worth it and then some. This process will reward you exponentially. Don't stick anything in your mouth and light it on fire, and...you're good to go!

  18. You've got it now. And on another topic, yes, you can stand the withdrawals. Many of us smoked for 40 years or more, and if we can do it, you can, too! It is uncomfortable, sometimes miserable, and you will have lots of physical and emotional reactions. None of these will kill you, regardless of how it might feel for a few minutes. Drink lots of water and have frequent snacks. You can do this!

  26. Welcome! You just have to make up your mind that there is no circumstance when it is okay to smoke. Not One Puff Ever (NOPE). As others have pointed out, education about the addiction is key. A technical tip..if you want someone to know you have answered their comment, use the Quote button. We do not receive notice if you use @and name. So glad you have joined us!

  28. ^^^ Yes - this is true (what MQ said). See the addiction for what it is and know that it does nothing positive for you

  29. You've still got nicotine in your system so the 3 day rule doesn't apply. The idea with the patch is to use it temporarily (if you must) to quit smoking but you must quit nicotine completely in order for you succeed in your quit. NRT is okay so long as you plan on getting off it it ASAP. Pretty much you're delaying the withdrawal process by using the patch vs cold turkey but people have success with it. Also, please don't let withdrawal horror stories influence you at all because many have no issues with withdrawal. I didn't. The time you put between you and nicotine the less and less you'll think about it. I never forget that I was once a smoker but I can tell you that in times of stress, the thought of smoking doesn't even enter my mind. If somebody would have told me this before I quit I wouldn't have believed them. Stick around the board and post, read, watch videos and learn how to beat this drug addiction. As long as you attack it for what it is, a drug addiction, you'll be free before you know it!

  30. There's no right or wrong way to quit Latoya. Many use NRT items such as the patch, gum or spray. Others use Chantix or similar aids to help them quit. Using an aid will mean you need to discontinue it at some point but the thinking is that by time you will be able to handle it better. Myself, I used patches for the first couple of days then just said the heck with them! It may have been more difficult but after a few days, I had the nicotine out of my body. Then, there was just the mental part of quitting - you know, learning to deal with not smoking while living my life again as a non-smoker. It has worked out for me though. Commitment to quitting is very important!

  34. There must be more than 10,000 cigarettes. To be fair thats only 50 cartons of 200. If you look at the height of the girl compared with the tank then there s definitely more than 10,00 cigarettes! BTW 3 weeks today for me and going strong!

  35. "Hey, buy me a pack of smokes on your way home..." "Stop by the smoke shop and bring me a pack?" "Rough day, can you grab me some smokes?" I typed those out in my head, to my husband, over and over this afternoon, but I never sent them. I haven't had a cigarette since October 16th. No nicotine since last Thursday and here we are on Tuesday and I'm still hyper obsessed with cravings and withdrawals. Seems they have been lasting all morning for several hours the last few days -- just relentless. Whoever made the video claiming that after the 3rd day without nicotine your little cravings will "happen 3 times a day lasting 5 minutes each" was entirely and utterly hallucinating -- or straight up lying. Still coughing a little, nothing productive but it won't go away. I've put on probably 10 pounds in the last month now and all for the sake of feeling every bit as crappy today as I did the first few. On a positive note: donated ALL the rest of the Halloween candy to deployed troops so several purposes were served... soldiers get a little treat, daughter learns about giving thanks & showing appreciation, none of that stuff can make my ass any bigger now. 3 cheers for tomorrow not sucking as badly as today did.

  36. Hi. My name is K, and I'm 44 years old. I'd like to introduce myself, and tell you a little about my story. I hope I will be welcome here. I first tried smoking before my 15th birthday, and by the time I was 16, I was already smoking a pack a day. By the time I reached my 30s, I was up to two packs a day. A few times throughout the years, I quit for a while, once for as long as several years, but I always went back to it. I just missed smoking so much. In 2013, I was about to turn 40, and still smoking 2 packs a day. My family was begging me to quit, so I decided to try e-cigs. I liked vaping, and quickly replaced smoking regular cigarettes with the e-cigs. I've now been vaping for almost 4 1/2 years, and I need to quit. I need to quit smoking completely. I need to give up the e-cigs, because all I did was replace one addiction with another. My 20 year old daughter recently was in tears, begging me to quit the e-cigs, and be totally free of nicotine, and smoking. I promised her I would. My quit date is tomorrow, and I'm scared. How will I fill the void that quitting the e-cigs will cause? The e-cigs, and regular cigarettes before that, have been my only friend for a long long time. I need some support, so I'm reaching out, hoping that I will be welcome here. Early tomorrow morning when I wake up, I hope I can come here, instead of reaching for my e-cig. I look forward to getting to know you all.

About us

QuitTrain®, a quit smoking support community, was created by former smokers who have a deep desire to help people quit smoking and to help keep those quits intact.  This place should be a safe haven to escape the daily grind and focus on protecting our quits.  We don't believe that there is a "one size fits all" approach when it comes to quitting smoking.  Each of us has our own unique set of circumstances which contributes to how we go about quitting and more importantly, how we keep our quits.
