I just ate a nice, med-rare steak... garlic butter sauce, steamed broccoli, loaded baked potato. Thanks so much to the cravings induced Halloween candy binge I've been on for the last 2 weeks I feel like I better go put some pajama pants on (basically, buffet pants) -- these jeans are going to cut off the circulation to the entire lower half of my body. It isn't even 7 p.m. my time and I want to go lay in bed and binge watch "Top 10" on YouTube. I hope that when one day I am feeling awesome about my quit, I can go back and look at all the dumb shit I said and how I felt.3 points

The first week of my quit I spent about 25 hrs a day sleeping! I had just retired, and before,I could,go back to work, I had to take two months off..(rules,of my pension)... So I thought that would be a good time to quit, since just about every aspect of my life was going to change...like everyone, I struggled, and thought the best way to avoid smoking was by doing things that I would be unable to smoke doing....sooo...sleeping it was...wake up, eat too much, ...go back to sleep...repeat.... in the mean time, I spent a lot of time here among these people and credit this support for being successful. I read everything here...knowledge wins the war!! I think being active here was key to keeping my mind busy.....2 points

Yes! Thanks Bakon I went downstairs and opened a BlowPop -- which was immediately ganked from me -- directly out of my mouth, by my 3 year old. Then I got a new one and my 6 year old felt cheated -- so she grabbed one. Hubby was like -- well, WTF. So he got one too. Now it's bed time... extra tooth brushing time first2 points

I totally agree that taking one’s mind off smoking will be most helpful. I’ll be doing everything possible to accomplish that. Everyone is different...we all process things in a different way...as long as it works that’s what counts ?2 points

I quit on a Sunday - not planned, just worked out that way. I also took 2 additional days vacation time from work so that covered Monday & Tuesday as well. I remember basically becoming a hermit for those first 3 days and I stayed in and watched TV and a bunch of videos as well. Just lost myself in mindless entertainment for those three days. It seemed to help me through the worst of my initial quit. Can't say if that would work for others but certainly keeping busy/distracted as much as possible is key to getting past the worst of the early withdrawal symptoms2 points

I have been very busy which has been helpful in preparing for not smoking. I have never been much of a TV watcher but I am finding this helps in dealing with stress! So I have been watching TV at night for relaxation & preparing for my Quit Date.2 points

Members 2,422 posts quitdate: 9-24-12 LocationOwn World Posted 24 September 2012 - 03:27 PM Quit now. Actually about an hour ago I had last. Woke up this morning and said today is the day. Thought about it for a week, here and there "ought to quit again." Been sucessful for a year a few times, two years one time. Pulled out Chantax I tried a few years ago this morning. Didnt like the dreams last time and quit taking it. It worked for a few weeks then had the puff. Pills expired last year, what the hell I will take one anyways. Found the board about an hour ago and started reading. Haven't decided if I am calling doctor for another prescription or going cold turkey. Been reading the craving stuff, and after an hour I am getting hungry, so off for a Subway for a treat of making it an hour.1 point

LOL -- we have 3 cats. 2 of them will be exposed to the tree for the fist time this year -- will have to report on how it goes Ohhhhh no... we don't have tinsel but our tree is artificial so has fake pine needles. I hope they don't try to feast on any of it lol We love ourselves some Christmas over here. We won't be putting out all of the houses and such. My son is too little to be trusted to leave it alone, but the tree is almost up now!1 point

Hi Peace Train...thanks so much for your advice....I have been to Therapy regarding “mother abuse”. Unfortunately I have been told that removing myself from her is the only thing that will help. I can’t do that as she is sick & elderly plus my Sister would become even more stressed as well. As a retired nurse I think I just have too big of a heart ? However, I can & have recently removed myself from her constant texting so I DO get some respite now. Hoping that will help me to do something for myself...anxiety is definitely my trigger....I need to learn smoking does NOT help anxiety....my addicted brain just thinks it does. I quit before using this site...you are ALL helpful. I cannot just give up & go off the site this time because I will not win this battle without help.1 point

Hi Tyne. You are making the right decision to quit smoking. It's the very best thing you can do. In time, after whatever withdrawal effects you experience calm down, you may likely find, as I did, that smoking is a huge contributing factor to anxiety. You don't realize this when you're actively smoking. Like Nancy said, you feel like it's calming you but all the smoke is doing is quelling the withdrawal. After 5 months quit I feel much calmer, sleep better, have zero panic attacks. Another thing you may want to think about is finding a therapist or counselor to work with on healing from the abuse. Maybe others here would have a different opinion but in my experience sometimes people use smoking to push down their feelings about difficult issues in the same way that gives rise to eating disorders, substance use or other unhealthy coping mechanisms. If you don't have insurance coverage or can't afford therapy, depending on the circumstances you may qualify for therapy at no cost PM me if you want additional info about this Just wanted to float that and to say welcome (back) and congrats. Stick with NOPE no matter what. You can definitely do this!1 point
