  1. Let's just be honest and lay it all on the table: The most exercise I'm going to be getting is hauling laundry up and down the stairs and chasing my 3 year old... I mean he does go pretty fast sometimes and he's heavy to carry around. So, there's that. Oh! I started doing a small bit of yoga in the mornings.

  2. That's good. Falls in line with NEAT (Non Exercise Activity Thermogenesis) which is really just a fancy sounding fitness industry term for moving around more. People typically see more results from being active throughout the day than if they just go to the gym and plug away on a treadmill for an hour. The only difference between exercise and activity is the label we put on it.

  4. Hello all, I just joined a minute ago, and glad to be part of a recovery community. I had my last cigarette an hour ago, and want it to be my last. I had two days, and then allowed myself to be triggered by a really stressful event. That is when I fall down. Good to be with you.

  5. Tomorrow, at the 11th hour, of the 11 Day of the 11th Month. Please take a moment to remember those who gave their lives to ensure WE could live in freedom. Regardless of the conflict they fought in, we owe them a debt that can never be repaid. Their reality ............................ Our reality ..............................

  7. Yep. Browns and rainbows rule the trout fishing game here in Tennessee. On occasion, you'll catch a small brook trout here and there. If we're gonna have a fish fry, I'll move down stream and catch some striped bass. Far less regulations concerning "keepers" and damn tasty as well.

  12. Welcome aboard NoMore. Really commit to making that one the last one and you're good to go. Take advantage of the information available here on the Quit Train. Learning about nicotine addiction dispels the myths and lies of the cigarette. And you're surrounded by quitters here, so feel free to ask any questions you may have. Congratulations on choosing freedom over cigarettes. Good call.

  13. Welcome NoMore! We're happy to have you as part of our family of quitters Please read all the stuff you can here, particularly the "pinned" posts at the top of the page. Understanding this addiction is really important. You mentioned about the stressful event that caused you to relapse? We believe that smoking will reduce stress from life events but in reality, smoking just reduces your anxiety that comes from needing to feed the addiction of smoking. Your life events are still there whether stressful or not. Smoking does nothing to fix those issues. Get rid of the anxiety you create for yourself by smoking and needing to feed that addiction every hour or so and you'll be that much further ahead. Hang around and let us support you on your journey to freedom!

  25. No Hate - I just wish I had never started then had to quit. I can relate to the "life changing status" of quitting though, absolutely. It is something that is very hard to do and so something to be very proud of having accomplished! No question about that

  26. Sorry, can't help with that. Don't recall reading that post (if it was here on this site?). I personally wish I had never smoked so I wouldn't have had to quit. Quitting wasn't a pleasant experience in particular for me. Nothing to want to experience again, that's for sure. The plus in that is, it keeps me vigilant in not losing the quit I have been able to build to this point - don't want to travel the quit path again thank you very much!!

  29. So many things people have said were a help and inspiration for me. Here's one. You have to learn how to accept The Desire to Smoke. You just have to tell yourself, "Okay now I'm having this desire so I'm going to just sit with that desire and tolerate it. Hi, desire, what's up. I see you, desire. It's okay. Hush, hush, sweet desire, there, there."

  32. The "learning more about the addiction" is a really important part of the process. When you truly believe that smoking does nothing positive for you and only takes from you, it's easier then to ignore that "junky" voice in your head trying to convince you to take another puff. That took a while for me to truly understand and believe that concept. Changing up your routine, even in very small ways, can also be helpful. Many people will say that first hit in the morning, maybe with your coffee, is the worst one to get over. Switch up to a glass of juice or something or jump in the shower right away just to change things up a little. Worked for me. You may not be into coffee but that's just an example. Will your quit be easier because of your prior vape routine (reducing nicotine gradually)? I am doubtful that will make much of a difference because, you have been taking in some nicotine and continuing the "smoking motions" all along. It's not just clearing the nicotine out of your system, the longest part of the journey is retraining your brain to function comfortably without going through those smoking motions every hour or so. Just think about all the time in your day that you spend either actually smoking or thinking about it. When I say thinking about it I mean planning when and where to smoke, making sure you have supplies, not forgetting them when you go somewhere .... the list goes on and on. When you stop altogether, you suddenly have all this free mental and physical time on your hands. What to do with all that time now??? That's when the anxiety ramps up for many people. Don't know how to fill all this time so they get anxious. Brain needs to be retrained and that takes time and repetition. I haven't researched the dopamine thing but if you have and believe you can assist your brain in dealing with the change through diet and/or exercise then go for it! Certainly can't hurt and may in fact help you. The big positive you have going for you PP is that your have already been reading and doing a lot of thinking about this quitting thing. That will help a lot when it comes to dealing with the early quit symptoms! No one ever knows how easy or difficult ones quit will be. All of us here on this board with months or years worth of quit time has gone through the early days and had to summons the determination to stay quit when our addiction is screaming out to be fed. You are no different than any of us. You will face challenges and you WILL be able to overcome them providing you are and remain committed to your quit being your number one life priority for the early days. The choice is up to you to make. The hard work will be up to you to do. We will be here to support and encourage you along the way

  33. You just reminded me that when I first quit, I didn't tell anyone for a few days - for fear of failing right away of course. Then on day 3 or 4 I think, I told my daughter that I had quit - not my wife but my daughter. Somehow, I guess I figured I could break a promise to my wife easier than I could break one made to my daughter. Not sure if that makes me a better father than husband but, it worked so far so ..................... Wishing you the best with your quit. You can leave all that crap behind and be free - just like we are plus, keep that pinky promise

  35. ^^^ At the very least, I expect eating healthier foods would help in avoiding weight gain issues often associated with quitting.

About us

QuitTrain®, a quit smoking support community, was created by former smokers who have a deep desire to help people quit smoking and to help keep those quits intact.  This place should be a safe haven to escape the daily grind and focus on protecting our quits.  We don't believe that there is a "one size fits all" approach when it comes to quitting smoking.  Each of us has our own unique set of circumstances which contributes to how we go about quitting and more importantly, how we keep our quits.
