Getting help wherever and whenever you can

My mother got settled in at a rehab facility the other day so I was able to come home yesterday. It's a long, boring drive (8 hours) so even though I listen to talking books, I do sometimes wish I had a cigarette to break the monotony.

At one point I stopped to get gas and use the restroom. As I was leaving the store I was looking around a bit. The clerk caught my eye and asked if she could help me. I said, "Yes. Tell me no." She looked puzzled and wary but said, "No." I said, "Thank you." Then I continued, "I quit smoking some months ago but I saw your sign advertising cigarettes for $3.25 a pack. So I was thinking..." She immediately caught on and said, "NO!! Absolutely not!! Get out of this store right now!" So I did. We both had a good laugh over the exchange.

I probably would not have bought any cigarettes, but for certain sure that clerk would not have sold me any even if I wanted them. That's what I call good customer service! :)

Every now and again I read something that restores my faith in humanity. A lot of your posts do that :)

And P.S If you like audibles you can get a ton included in kindle unlimited for 10 bucks a month. It is so great.

This makes me smile. Some people are just put there as guardian angel types...right place, right time. All saved and moving along with nothing to see here :) x

$3.25 - that is crazy! Not that It makes a difference, but it's just interesting.

Way to go Chrys, I bet you are over the moon to be home!!

Great story. Great example of all the associations and the urges/thoughts that follow. Those associations to smoking were embedded into every fiber of me, but they are slowly dissipating. A longtimer told me that I have to go through "all the Seasons,"....every scenario. Maybe many times, but a day at a time.

I salute you for saying, no and an eight hour ride is no small feat, either.

I figure you didn't really want to smoke, because even though that store clerk was an Angel, you know us...we would have went to the next store.

You certainly helped everyone by sharing your resolve. Thank you !
