NOPE~Never/Ever/Forever

Sazerac Quit Date: October 23, 2013, A Good Day to be Free.   Posted July 24, 2016    Some quitters may have trouble with the never/ever part of  NOPE (Not One Puff Ever).   To tell you the truth,  in the nascence of my quit, I  bluffed my way through never/ever land. I remember Cristobal and Stuart qualifying never/ever with the caveat,  'just for today' and that was the truth too, it is just about here and now.   As days and weeks passed,  I abs

Climbing the Rope

Nancy Quit Date: 07/07/2013   Posted April 16, 2014  ORIGINALLY BY OBOB-GOLD FREEDOM MEMBER-WHYQUIT.COM  So, I start reminiscing a bit about the early days of my quit. I remember members popping in to post their celebration threads. Green, Bronze, Silver, Gold and beyond. It felt downright intimidating. Here was I, with my seemingly tiny little insignificant sum of 3 days, 4 days, 5 days and so on... clinging to my quit like a man clinging to a life line thrown over the

To NOPE or not to NOPE

Cbdave Quit Date: 10th oct 2015   Posted February 4, 2019  G’day I’m cbdave and more often that not I get to raise the NOPE pledge of a morning. Being close to the international date line and living on the east coast of Australia means that I get to see the new day a lot earlier than most. If I’m off fishing it can be really early as I hate my phone smelling of fish bait. It wasn’t always that way. I never posted a NOPE on the QSMB board in those first months.

WILLPOWER

Mee Quit Date: 08/01/2018   Posted August 31, 2019    I used to think I did not have the willpower to quit smoking.  Every attempt, my thoughts would drift back to needing that cigarette and the excuses of why I could not quit.   Last night, as I lay in bed, I could not get this word out of my mind.  I realized that, over the past year, this word has really changed meaning for me. I always had the willpower to quit smoking, I just did not know how to do it.  St

You Just Don't

Soberjulie   Posted April 7, 2014  some days are harder than others.   but you don't pick up that first cigarette   you just don't.   it's less about willpower than it is about making a decision not to, in advance of the thought or the desire, no matter how scared, angry, jealous, happy, bored, horny, depressed, anxious, elated, insecure, arrogant, lonely or silly you feel.   some days it seems that although yesterday life looked good, today

How to silence the inner voice....

Ladybug Posted April 9, 2014    I have no idea where I got this from, but it's in my quit diary and I thought I share it with you guys!   As to silencing the inner voice:   The secret is a repeated conscious choice. If you draw a saw across a log one time, you may make a scratch in the bar. If you draw it across the log a few more times you may scratch the surface of the wood.   If you keep drawing the saw across the same place on the log, the scratch

My Cigarette, My friend......

Soberjulie   Posted April 16, 2014    How do you feel about a friend who has to go everywhere with you? Not only does he tag along all the time, but since he is so offensive and vulgar, you become unwelcome when with him. He has a peculiar odor that sticks to you wherever you go. Others think both of you stink. He controls you totally. When he says jump, you jump. Sometimes in the middle of a blizzard or storm, he wants you to come to the store and pick

Take smoking off your table!

REZ   Posted April 30, 2015        Everyone has a lot of stuff on their table and in their life. You might have job stress, lots of bills, some medical issues and a host of other things going on that makes the thought of quitting seem impossible but it's not! All those things have nothing to do with smoking. You might reach for a cigarette when your dealing with them but if you think about it, smoking doesn't help resolve any of your other problems. All it does is makes the b

I Was the Smoking Spouse

DenaliBlues Quit Date: 2/10/2022   Posted August 30    A lot of couples struggle when one person quits smoking and the other does not. I’ve been reflecting on recent Quit Train discussions on this topic, because for decades I was "the smoking spouse."   I didn’t smoke in our home or in our car. But the smoke clung to me and was present everywhere I went. It caused a ton of tension with my mate. The stink. The health worries. The temptation to join in. She H-A-T

NOPEster Quit Date: February 4, 2017   Posted July 30, 2018    Here I am visiting my sister in Norway for the first time as a non smoker. FYI my quit date was 2/5/17. I’ve never had such an easy time being a guest. My overseas flight over was enjoyable and stress free. I no longer constantly sneak off from the family for a cig. I can hike with the best of them. And I do not reek of smoke nor cough persistently.    I love my new independent life free from the ni

Add this to your toolbox...A Letter To Loved Ones

Repost by Sherry Posted 07 April 2009 - 11:31 PM     Dear ___________, I am about to try and change my life for the better. I have quit smoking. I just wanted to write this letter to you so you know what to expect for the next couple of weeks, since the process of withdrawal can be very challenging for me, and for those around me. (Most people do not realize it, but nicotine addiction is literally one of the hardest drugs to kick, even harder than heroin). Everyone

Nobody Understands What I'm Going Through (while quitting smoking)

MarylandQuitter Quit Date: 10/07/2013   Posted October 17, 2014    I know for me, my family truly had not a clue about the addiction much less what it was like to quit.  This is why I suppose my doctor told me to get involved in a support group.    Nobody Understands What I'm Going Through Video discusses what family members can and cannot do to help their loved ones to quit smoking.       Link to original post: https://www.q

The Pattern of the Journey

beacon   Posted March 5, 2015   I was thinking about the first few months of my quit and how I posted on the boards quite alot. I posted about dizziness, stomach aches, craves and anger and and clear lungs and weight gain and feelings of sheer joy. The first month, the first drink, the first vacation, the first taste, the first drs appointment, Each of these were special, unique, important to me, my experience. The old phartes commented, comforted, celebrated, and laughed.

Triggers after you quit

Jenny Quit Date: 05/24/2012   Posted March 30, 2014    Throughout your quit you are likely to be faced with events that bring thoughts of smoking back to the forefront of your mind.  I've been quit nearly two years (28 year smoker)  and while it does not happen often, it still happens. Not like when you first quit and craving a cigarette can be a whole body experience, but more of a thought.  Your mind after so many years of smoking has been conditioned to think that a c

Are you thinking of quitting?

Soberjulie   Posted April 16, 2014      In other words, begin where you are. But begin. Please stop waiting. Sometimes delay can have very serious consequences.  As an addict I wanted the parade, the grand announcement, the regal launch, the ceremonial countdown, the press conference, the complete preparation with the guarantee of success before I thought I could start......before I could visualize what starting even looked like. About us

QuitTrain®, a quit smoking support community, was created by former smokers who have a deep desire to help people quit smoking and to help keep those quits intact.  This place should be a safe haven to escape the daily grind and focus on protecting our quits.  We don't believe that there is a "one size fits all" approach when it comes to quitting smoking.  Each of us has our own unique set of circumstances which contributes to how we go about quitting and more importantly, how we keep our quits.
